Subject: What protein can I eat for breakfast?
So I got a job as an accountant at a YMCA in my area and I can workout all the time. I am working out at 6:00 before work and during my lunch. I generally eat some chicken or fish for lunch, but I am having a problem finding a protein to eat after my morning workout. Is has to be something I can prepare at home and bring to work. I have been eating Steel cut oats with a packet of sweet n low and a dash of milk, but I from what I understand, this is not ideal after a workout. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Eric

Why not mix some protein powder in with your oatmeal?  I've been mixing in pro powder into my milk/granola and its actually pretty good.  Plus, you can mix it up the night before w/out issues (keeping the milk separate from the granola).

Yogurt, granola and nuts. Chocolate milk or your favorite smoothy enriched or not with whey protein.

Egg salad with diced chiken and cashews in a wrap but that's more like for diner.

For Breakfast here lately I've been eating Special K protein Plus with milk, a banana sliced up and some walnuts sprinkled in.
The special K has 10g of protein per serving and some fiber.

If you have a microwave at work this may sound funny but its pretty good.  Its a recipe from Mens Health.

The Ultimate Power Breakfast

Powerfoods: 8

1 egg

1 cup low-fat milk

3/4 cup oatmeal

1/2 cup mixed berries

1 tablespoon chopped pecans or almonds

1 teaspoon vanilla whey protein powder

1 teaspoon ground flaxseed

1/2 banana, sliced

1 tablespoon plain yogurt

In microwave-safe bowl, mix egg well, then add next 6 ingredients and nuke for 2 minutes. Remove, let cool for a minute or two. Top with sliced banana and yogurt.

Serves 1

Nutritional information, per serving: 590 calories, 30 g protein, 80 g carbs, 17 g total fat, 4 g saturated fat, 193 mg sodium, 12 g fiber

Throw some almonds or peanut butter (and some dried fruit) in the oatmeal - I don't see why oatmeal (minus the sweet n lo) is a bad post-workout meal esp if it's breakfast and you haven't eaten anything yet that day - steel cut is good too, since they haven't stripped the nutrients out of it. Seems fine to me. Why do you think it's bad?

Other breakfast proteins, portable or otherwise:

eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, milk (or milk substitute), peanut butter or other nut butter, nuts in or on things, turkey bacon or other fake breakfast meat item, smoked salmon with cream cheese (on a bagel half or english muffin).

Hard boil some eggs and stick them in the fridge. Yogurt and cottage cheese come pre-portioned and portable. Stash a jar of pb in your desk at work, and a bag of raw almonds to add to that oatmeal.

You can do cold steel cut oatmeal, a little stonyfield fat free yogurt mixed in, teaspoon ground flax, one crushed walnut, berries/fruit of your choice. Don't know how you feel about the idea of cold oatmeal. But if you prep the night before and leave in the fridge, it can be delicious and a good on the go protein option for work.

Speaking of Stoneyfield, have you seen the new greek yogurts?  They pack a huge protein punch of 15-18 grams per cup.  Add some granola, it's my new addication!

Oooh... I will have to check that out; haven't seen the Greek yogurts yet. I love Stoneyfield... french vanilla fat free+sliced banana+cinnamon+sometimes honey= perfect dessert or breakfast.

Sorry had to add a pic. These are my favorite these days. Use turkey sausage, low fat cheese, and a light english muffin. Perfect-o

Sounds healthier that it looks. You should add lettuce and tomatos. It might sound like a joke but I'm not kidding.

I have my own version of the "egg Mc Muffin".
English muffin with cream cheese,
Left over chiken (or rolled up turkey slices)
A beaten egg with chives and black olive
Spinash and Dijon (I love Dijon)

I tried with a bagel but the cream cheese gets messy.

I'm a fan of whole grain toast with some sort of nut butter. Quick, easy, and I can make it at work. When I'm doing morning workouts, that's typically what I eat afterward.
