Thanks for all the responses. I got some laughs and am cheered up immensely. I know I have a "keeper" (sorry, single gals) but sometimes you just have to RANT.

P.S. I let him read the rant and he got a kick out of it, too. On our golden anniversary, we hope to repeat our biking honeymoon to Iceland!

That's the problem I have too.  When he's not working a lot and trains we're good for each other.  Right now though I aggravate the heck out of him, because I keep dropping him on the bike.  He hates running, and his idea of swimming is taking a shower.

When I run with my wife(not very often) she gets irritated because I don't run at the same pace as her. I AM SLOW. She doesn't understand that I am doing zone training, and right now I am only running in zone 2, for me that is about a 10 min mile. I tell her that I will do intervals later, so my speed will increase. Her reply is, " how can you run an 8 min mile in a triathlon when you are only running 10 min miles now?" So I gave up trying to explain Try to be tolerant/understanding of your spouse. If that doesn't work, there is always sex.

Bryan

Hey Bryan, I love your avatar. My husband races as a Clydesdale (very infrequently) and also rides Clydesdale or Belgian horses because they're the only ones big enough for him. He's 6'8", about 215 lbs, and just not an endurance athlete. I've swum, run and cycled with him and we're completely different creatures, athletically speaking. He's good at sports like volleyball and softball where power is a big factor. When I try to bring him into my sports we both get pissed off. I've concluded that this is one area of our lives we shouldn't try to share.

I love my husband, but why does training with him irritate me? He is faster than I am, He never gets tired, He is always cheerful while training, He always waits up for me, He always encourages me, He tells me I am beautiful. WHY THE %^^&* DOES THIS MAKE ME FEEL LIKE KNOCKING HIM OFF HIS BIKE?

OK, I feel better now.

You refer to your wife as a cow? How's that working out for you? :-)

Actually, she picked the name
Right now she is so new to the sport that she still listens to me, but I give it a month or two before I either end up in a ditch on the side of the road or sleeping on the couch

Me too- love my SO, hate his advice (which is well intentioned and thoughtful). I have never been an athlete- ever. he ran cross country for like eight years. I really should listen to him, but it frustrates the hell out of me. so, now I work out alone. he's in gradschool anyways, so he doesn't have time to. sometimes you just want to figure it out for yourself- you know? it's not that I resent that he's better or knows stuff and wants to help me (ok, sometimes a little) I just want this to be MY thing, that I figured out myself. I'm glad to know that others feel this way too, I really felt like a big meanie.

Yeah when she gets grumpy at me and doesn't want to do the workout, I just say "Are you training to be a powder puff girl or an ironman."  That usually motivates well.

Yeah, my spouse is perfect almost all the time. Except when he calls me a powder puff girl.

I like training with my wife.  Now we get to compare all of our aches, pains, injuries, and triathlon war wounds !!
