Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club
75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 32s
Overall Rank = 192/647
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 14/27
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5, PB toast, glass of milk for breakfast. Went and picked up mom and Koes...drove the 45 minutes to Warsaw. Banana on the way.
Event warmup:

Stretched...had 1/2 a gatorade
Swim
  • 09m 40s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

Guessing on water temp, but didn't see any wetsuits. Decent swim, never felt like I got into a groove. Got trapped against the rope and behind a slower swimmer, not much I could do about it. Took two huge gulps of water down the stretch that got to me. Other than that, pretty decent, not great.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe go a little wider or start further up front.
Transition 1
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Pretty good, went without socks, which ended up being a mistake during the run. 4th out of 27 in transition...
Bike
  • 44m 11s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 18.33 mile/hr
Comments:

Just not enought training...my legs were burning 4 miles in which really kept me from hammering any. I also knew it was going to kill me on the run. Definitely need the improvement here more than anywhere else.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

No problems here, in and out quickly. 2nd out of 27
Run
  • 29m 48s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 08m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

According to the mile markers, I was at 16 minutes through the first two miles, which means I went 13:48 for the last mile and a 1/2. If true, I lost it somewhere. I never felt like I slowed down a ton, but maybe I lost my pace. At any rate, the bike wore me out and I think that caught up with me.
What would you do differently?:

Better bike training, better pace on the first mile or two.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, post race lunch.

Event comments:

Nice race, will do it again next year. Only fault is that they didn't have the run mile markers, which I always like for pacing.
