Subject: 2010 Texas Independence relay: TX BT team?

On my bike ride this morning I was thinking about some of the things I'd like to do next year (I've hardly started this season...but I'm a planner, what can I say??) and the Texas Independence Relay is on the list.  It's 6-7 March 2010.  I have only heard great things about it.  So, I was thinking it'd be fun to put a Texas BT team together. We see each other at plenty of races, "talk" back and forth here all the time, how much more fun would it be to actually be on a team together.   Teams are 8-10 people, and together you cover 203.2 miles over the 2 days.  The cost is $900 per team (so long as we register before November).  Anyone interested?  Speed is not an issue--I'm looking at this from a totally "fun" perspective not a WE MUST WIN perspective!! I'm willing to head up the organizational piece of it. Thoughts?

Info on the relay is here: http://www.texasindependencerelay.com/

OK, this looks very cool.  Looking at the legs, some are very short   Do we switch runners for each leg?  I am interested, and so is Steve, he just does not know it yet

Marcy- yes, a different runner switches off each leg, so we could definitely assign the leg lengths based on preference throughout the group. I think an 8 mile leg might be the longest.

Bonny- YES, for fun, speed is not an issue, fun is an issue!!

Keep me in the loop as well.  Could be fun.  That would be my second month of IM training so, why not?

I've wanted to do this race for a long time. If you get a team together count me in.

One of the BT's from Arizona did a similiar race last year. We were talking about it in SF. He suggested having a cyclist with lights riding with the runners at night. I'll ask him to post some more helpful hints for the race.

We'll have to get really cool BT t-shirts for the team. Any cool logo ideas?

GREAT, sounds like definite interest here.  So, keep it coming.  We need at least 8, and if we get 16 we can have two teams.  I'll put a list together, later today, of who has said their interested thus far.

That sounds like super fun times! I've done the race the last 2 years and it's definitely top notch and the more fun than you can even imagine! We saw a team last last year who also rode bikes in addition to running which was cool and made the race tons of fun and an even bigger challenge! We also got a hotel room on the outskirts of Houston last year that we used as a brief sleep stopover and shower stop. It was the best decision we ever made since both vans got to stop in and sleep for a few hours and clean up. We were in a much better humor finishing the last hours of the race as a result (and a lot cleaner)!

Okay, well, I have no doubt we can get at least one team, and if 5 more people are interested, we can field two teams (8 a piece). AimeeP--were you interested with us, or are you going with your crew from the past two years? (we'll take ya!! )

Right now I have:

Brittany (TexasMPGal)

Marcy (dodgersmom)
Steve (Doughboy--by proxy of Marcy)

Bonny (bonbeebe)

Robin (rjbostick)

TriPatrick (Patrick is first name I assume?)

Rene (Catwoman)

Runnin2Live (??)

Karen (KSH)

Anne (irondreams)

LTRAIN (??)

Keep it coming!!

That is a fun idea! Riding and running the 200 or so miles!

Then we can just swim at some point along the way... it will be perfect!

Brittany,
I may be interested. I need to check the school calendar for next year to see when the kids' spring break is, but I've always thought it would be fun to do as well.

Wow, what a coincidence...

Today at lunch I saw a window sticker that said, "Come and Get It" along with a cannon. First time I ever saw one and thought it was kind-of cool. Tonight I click on this thread and, boom!, there it is again.

I'm thinkin' it could be a sign that I should "be interested", but I have some very specific plans and goals next spring, and this might not fit in. I'll keep checking in, though.

Sounds like a blast and I'm bettin' that a BT team could seriously challenge if they wanted to.

Formerly TX BTer here - have been fascinated by the idea of this race since I first learned of it from a flyer given out at San Jacinto Tri in 2006.  Have since stopped running and moved to OKC... but if I can swing the travel time, I'd be interested in supporting.

Heck, it might be enough to get me interested in running again, but let's not go all crazy quite yet....

I'm intrigued.  I've known about the event for a coule of years, but never had it work in the schedule.  Can't commit yet, but want to stay in the loop.
