Pre-race routine:

Ate a Jam sandwich and drank a gatorade on the way down. Got my area set-up upon arrival and walked to the start. Since I didn't have any support there, I had to walk barefoot to the start and cut my right foot. I did a quick swim of only about 25 meters to get used to the grimy water.
Event warmup:

Little swim, it's so hot out this time of year, warm-up consists of walking outside.
Swim
  • 07m 39s
  • 400 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

I drafted off a guy for a while and when I started realizing I was catching him with every stroke, I passed him. He then used all kinds of energy to stick with me the rest of the time. I give myself an A- for that whole swim performance.
What would you do differently?:

Swim a little faster in the middle.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Since my tri-top hasn't arrived, I didn't have it to wear for the swim so I had to struggle with a tank top before the bike. I think I lost about 10 seconds in the process. Then, I couldn't get clipped-in at the bike start.
What would you do differently?:

Tri-top and get clipped-in better.
Bike
  • 30m 45s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.51 mile/hr
Comments:

I was keeping a good pace, but not killing it. I mixed my accelerade a little too thick and struggled drinking it. I'll water-it down a little more next time. This race was just to prep myself for my A-sprint race (Loggerhead, Aug 8th).
What would you do differently?:

Ride a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Did good getting my feet out of the shoes and getting ready to run into T2, but there were 3 people stopped at the entrance so my dismount was botched. I could've done better even though they were there. Then, I should've removed my garmin before reaching the rack, but didn't so I had to run-around the bike to get it.
What would you do differently?:

Run off the bike, grab the garmin on the jog through T2.
Run
  • 25m 53s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 10m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

The run sucked. I was overheated from the get go. I tried rubbing some biofreeze on my legs and shoulders. I think it helped a little. I think not having enough hydration during the bike hurt me. Anyway, I had 2 girls who were 21 and 24 who I was running with/trying to cheer-on they placed 2nd and 3rd in their AG.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on running in the heat more and get the right mix there too. I need to get the right accelerade mix.
Post race
Warm down:

none really

What limited your ability to perform faster:

hydration on the bike, the heat on the run.

Event comments:

Good race. The course is short, but I think it's nice to have these short ones every once in a while.
