Do you know what year it is? How many miles it has on it?

After 2-3 years bike are about half what they were new.

It is the level of components that I prefer to avoid. I personally think bikes with minimum of 105 parts are better. This bike might be a good starter bike if it fits you well but price seems high for the level parts it is. Sora and Tiagra parts are the low end parts Shimano makes.

My daughter has similar speced bike Trek 1000 that she paid under $700 for so half price would be more like $325 not $500.

I was going to say something similar - and I don't know anything about the frame - so I refrained.  (I think it's a steel frame though.)  It's retails for 599$ - so I was thinking that 500$ isn't a great deal.

If you have some wiggle room in your budget - I would look for something with 105 at least, preferably Ultegra.  For a little bit more money you can get quite a bit more bike.

Just an FYI - my Devinci has Sora components.  There's nothing wrong with them - and they work well (6000+kms and 9 years) but they don't shift as clean as the Ultegra on my Cervelo.  Plus there's a lot more plastic on the Sora stuff...

Can't give an exact year, but since it has an 8 speed cassette I would guess it's 3-5 years old.

When you go look - note the colours on the bike.  They usually change every year.  Then you can look it up online to see what year it is.

I'm guessing that 200-300$ would be in the right range.  If it's in really good shape and it's been cared for - then I could see 300$ but the tires are the stock tires that came on it - so check them - unless they were replaced.   Make sure you have a really good look at the gears front and back - check the teeth for wear (and dirt).

Take it for a long ride and run it through all the gears too.

Yeah - if it's a 2001 and it's still got stock tires on it ... I think I'd save my money and wait if it was me.

Keep an eye on the classified here.  Stuff comes up all the time.  (You could also put up a WTB ad...)

Thanks Silver for all the help..Bike was taken care of and shifted and looked good mechanically, but 400.00 is as low as he would go( all original)...so I will just keep looking and save my money.
Thanks Guys..
