Has anyone done the Austin Tri (the one in September)?  Do any mortals compete in this or is it mostly elite athletes?

Ah, it's for regular people too!! I did it last year as did a lot of people I know. In fact, I'd say the competition was much more stiff for this year's CapTex Tri vs. last year's Austin Tri.  Not sure what it will hold this year, but it is like most big triathlons--very fast people to very slow people and everyone having a lot of fun. Jack and Adam's put on a great race and post-race.

Hey- How's the course on the Olympic Distance?   Thinking seriously of doing that race this year, and wonder what I should expect.   Is it really hilly?   I hate hills, but can deal with them if I'm mentally prepared for them.

Any insight appreicated!

This is a great race, will be my 3rd time doing the olympic there this year.  Course isn't very hilly there are a couple climbs but nothing too bad. The bike course does get congested, especially by the 3rd loop. Jack and Adams puts on a great race, I loved the ice sponges on the run!

Yes, it is three loops.  For the Austin Tri you go up South Congress, back down and then up Congress but turn around right at the Capital.  Then you head out towards Lake Austin Blvd. and back.  The hills are pretty much at the top of each turn: top of S. Congress, top of Congress near the Capital, and then the Lake Austin climb--that is probably the steepest, though the shortest of the two.  Otherwise, it's fairly flat or downhill in between. It CAN get congested once the sprinters get on the course at the same time as Oly's.  More motivation to finish as much of the bike before the sprinters hit the course!

I cannot wait for this race, it'll be my last of the season so I'm edging towards the Olympic distance. I hope the bike has hills, my training circuits are all hills so I'm more confident with hills over all flat.

I emailed the race director with that same question - Response was to sign up before Ausgust and you should not have a problem.
