Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4AM. Ate a whole wheat bagel w/ peanut butter and a clif bar with some Powerade. got my gear togerther and rode over to the yacht club by 5:30AM.
Event warmup:

after setting up transition, my cousin Peter and I went out for about a 20 minute ride to make sure everything was ok with our bikes. We got back and went for a 15 minute run. After running I went down on one of the docks to stretch and put my wetsuit on. After the wetsuit went on I jumped in the lagoon around 7AM so I would have about 15 minutes to warmup prior to the pre-race meeting.

I lined up to the far right - so I probably had a little extra to swim. Funny though I still got my fare share of being kicked and elbowed. Couldn't get my breathing - sometimes I took subsequent breathes on the same side; sometimes I took my regular left/right/left breathing rhythm.

For whatever reason I just couldn't get my feet in my shoes - not until about 100th or 101st Street.

I just felt like crap - seemed like I started strong, but by the North return on the 2nd lap my legs felt like they were desd. Nice tailwind hesding South on the course and a pretty strong headwind heading back North on the course that just beat me down. The 1st two laps heading SOuth I was right around 23mph or 24mph; following the turn to head North i dropped to 19mph or 20mph.
What would you do differently?:

decided to not take any water with me - I'm changing my mind; I need a little bit of fluid on the bike to prep me for the run.

What would you do differently?:

keep running and lose weight. I also don't push myself hard enough on the run. I haven't had my lungs or muscles burn. It's like a jog. A lot of my running deficiencies have to do with the mental part of it.
Post race
Warm down:

Jumped back in the lagoon to cool down. Showered and then went to look for my cousin.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not pushing my self in the run. need to push harder. probably the same with the bike. I can go faster.

Congrats on a great race too.

I'm not going to do King's Grant this season - I will be doing Marlton Lakes instead. Wasn't too crazy about the swim course with King's Grant.
