Please share your favorite OWS location in the west end of the GTA.

Does Kelso park lake allow open water swimming?
Any opinions on swimming in  Christie Lake (Hamilton) or Lake Niapenco (Binbrook park - Hamilton)?

My tri group frequents Gulliver's Lake (www.gulliverslake.com).  It is on Safari Road (off Highway 6).  Man-made lake that warms up pretty early in the season due to its small size.  It is nice to just pop over there on a weekday evening for an OWS (I'm in Oakville).  We've also done a  couple race similuations there and some runs after the swims.

Thanks Nerak11 - I'll check it out... Do you know Gulliver Lake allows day access to go swimming or do I have to rent a camp site for the nite?

Although I haven't been there this year, I have done open water swimming at Kelso.   It was pretty good.     Lake Niapenco was nice from what I can remember from previous races.

We tend to use Guelph Lake and Lake Whittaker, my favorite being Guelph.    A bit far for a weekday swim but we often make a 'tri' day of it on weekends.   You can cover the Guelph Lake AND Belwood cycling routes at the same time and a really TOUGH hilly route out towards Erin and Hillsburgh (8% grades).

Mark - Gulliver's charges $8 per person for day use.  There are lots of other people who just show up for a couple of hours to do a swim or scuba dive in the evenings.  On weekends the place is packed with families picnicing at the beach area (which is the opposite end of the lake from where we do our OWS).

If your group is ever swimming out guelph way drop me a line. My wife hates me swimming alone in Guelph lake.

How far do you guys swim? I usually just do a straight out and back from the main beach. I think it's 800m to 1000m but I have no idea.

Whitaker has  an 800 meter course marked out, so that's good. There are splash and dash races every Wed night.  Also Lakeside has a nice clean little lake.  It is 4.00 per visit.
