Total Time = 2h 14m 2s
Overall Rank = 9/1040
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/136
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:00AM ate breakfast and got to the transition area around 5:15AM which was already getting crowded.
Event warmup:

Rode my bike for 10 minutes, ran for 5 and swam for 5.
Swim
  • 25m 55s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim at this race is tough. There are just so many people out in the water to navigate through.
What would you do differently?:

Try to stay away from the crowds and find someone to draft off of.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

The transition area at this race is huge. The last 2 races I have done, my timing chip has gotten snagged on my wetsuit so this time I took off my timing chip and then ripped my suit off. It actually worked quite well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 03m 14s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 23.58 mile/hr
Comments:

I was cruising in my biggest gear, hit a pot hole and off came my chain. I had to stop to get it back on. Cost me first place in my age group for sure and probably 2-3 spots overall.

I am pretty sure this bike course is longer than 24.85 miles. My computer read 25.5 at the end of the race. My front wheel probably spun a bit after I racked my bike but for sure not .7 miles. The course gets very crowded as well. There are a lot of beginners at this race which I have absolutely no problem with. However, I believe its in everyone's best interest if the race director would clearly explain in the race packet the correct way to race the bike section...stay to the right at all times except passing, dont ride in groups, look before you pass, ect.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Nice transition for me today. Everything went smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 41m 13s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a very good run for me today. I am not sure what went wrong, maybe just one of those days. I was hoping to be around 38 minutes so I was pretty far off my goal.
What would you do differently?:

Not really sure.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, ate, and drank

What limited your ability to perform faster:

All the people on the course and the chain incident.

Event comments:

I rate this race a 4 only because of the terrible road conditions. This would be a fantastic race if the roads were repaved.

Congrats on your great time...too bad on the chain.

I understand your comment about general knowledge for the newbies on the bike portion. I bodymarked for this race, so I was able to watch much of it. Coming out of transition, it seemed that there were a lot of athletes having to call "on your left" just to get out of the transition and "runway" area and to the street. I'm not sure what it was actually like once you were on the course, but the first part of the race looked rather frustrating.

Congrats on a fabulous race!

Great job!  That course is a bit rough with the potholes.
