Just curious to see where everyone else falls!

I am following Don Fink's Plan (Be Iron Fit), so I am assuming a 30 week plan with 10 weeks of Base, 10 weeks of Build and 10 weeks of Peak/Taper.

Assume averages over the 10 week periods.  I am trying to follow the Competitive Plan for my first IM (corresponds to the 1st choice below).

Also, what is your goal for your IM?  To finish?  Sub x:xx?  Kona qualify?

I'm using the same plan as you for my first IM on the same date but I'll be at B2B.  My main goal is to put it all together and be able to have a good overall race and if I finish under 13 hours that will be great sub 12 would be better.

I'm using the BT bronze beginner IM plan.  I'll be at IMFL too, my first.  Its a 20 week program that start around 8 hours and peaks at 18 hours.  My goal is to finish, but really I'd like to go sub 12:30.  See you there!

X2 on the wife and kids thing! Because of those reasons I chose Ironfit Intermediate program. I have followed it to a T with only 2 weeks left. The only changes I made were:
1. I've missed only 2 swim workouts
2. My last 2 hell weeks I added 2 hours to each. From 15 hours to 17 hours
3. I bumped my HIM up one week from week 22 to week 23
4. Due to some medial shin splint issues I missed some (not a lot) of his Z4 work
5. Last 10 weeks of swimming I worked more on distance and some speed sets in open water. I did not follow the swim workouts in the book

That's it though, everything else was by the book. I HAVE NO IDEA what to expect from this plan but it seems to be working.

I trained by time and not miles, but toward the end, I had to make sure I was getting in 4 or 5 century rides for my own piece of mind.

This is my first IM and don't think I could have squeezed the Competitive program into my life's schedule.

When my kids get older and no longer want to spend all their time with DAD I will do a harder program and shoot for a Kona spot. Right now I'm hoping for middle to low 11's.

I have the intermediate program written out in Excel if anyone wants it. Just shoot me a PM and I will email it to you.

With 2 little boys at home, I can totally relate!  I feel as though I can be ready on less than the Competitive Plan, but I also really want to see what I am capabable of (all balanced of course, with not getting injured!).

So, I am shooting for the Competitive Plan, but will use the Intermediate Plan as a fall back, if needed.

I'm doing Fink's book also. It will be my second go round with the plan. I used it to do IMFL (my first) last year. This year i'm going for Wisconsin. It should be interesting to say the least. It doesn't help that I've been slacking on my training... 9 weeks to go!!

I'm training with a coach and have been averaging 8 or so on light/recovery weeks, about 10-14 most weeks and maxed out on a couple big weeks in June at 18 and 24, but those were very focused weeks where I was training on the course. I started at the beginning of February and I think I was between 6-8 as I was getting up and running. My biggest build is just around the corner, not sure what the hours will be but I know it's going to be a big commitment!

I am using the Beginner plan from BT.  I am using the time requirements but working out reasonably hard so I am covering alot of miles.  My plan for my IM is to finish under 12 and no DNF.  LOL.  Balance?  What balance?  I have 2 kids and a tolerant spouse and I always feel like I am cutting corners with them and my training!  Good luck to all.

Part of how long training takes per week is your average pace. I'm relatively slow so doing 150 miles riding takes me longer than a guy 15 years younger than me. So my average week is very different than someone who plans on 10-11 hour IM.

I'm 6 weeks out from IM Canada and have had many 15-17 hour weeks. Next week will be my biggest week in my build and I figure it will be about 30 hours...40 miles running, 240 riding, and 12,400 yds swimming.  After that week back I think to more normal weeks. The training is fun but fitting it into your life can be hard. I have 5 kids and don't work. It is harder now kids are out of school.

Maxed out at about 15.5 hours (180+ miles, IIRC).  First IM and...yup...also looking at 12 hours as a realistic goal (if I don't blow up on the run like I did at Wildflower, anyhow).

All of my training is in time, not distance, so I know my peak week will be 20 hours, regardless of the actual distances.

I tend to average a little higher across the board.  12-15 base, 17-20 build, 20-25 peak.  For me it really ends up being weather dependent as the long bike plays big in the weekly hours.  If it is just too cold in the Winter to get the long ride in outside, hours will be down for that week.  I can only handle about 3 hrs on a bike / spin bike indoors and I start to go coo coo.  I do pretty much all my running outside regardless of the weather, so it's really more about bike minutes being the limiter (oh and sometime work travel messes things up a little).

hi everyone,

well this is my first IM, and i'm in a situation were i'm a single mom and my training has been not the greatest, right now i can swim an hr or so, i'm up to 2 1/2 on my bike and my running just has been doing races and occassionally doing some runs before work.

just curious with the time frame i have is there anything anyone can suggest to me on how to up my miles and still be on track with my training, i do have a supportive boyfriend who watches my son, i just feel like time it running out but again what to maintain my fitness.

this is my routine right now:

swimming 3-4x week an hr to hr 1/2

riding 2-3 week 30-50 miles

running-1-2 week 4-6 miles (the legs aren't what they use to be)

i do have an olympic this week and also i'm doing Timberman, this will be my 2nd year doing it.

when it comes to recovery i just take a day or two off...so as you can read i need a plan/routine...

thanks

You don't use the BT blogs so hard to tell. Which IM are you doing and when?

Are you following a plan? If so stick with it and adapt the days to fit your life.

If you are doing an IM this year seems your long ride and long runs are a little low volume wise unless you are doing one in November.
