Age Group Rank = 59/74
Pre-race routine:

Woke up a little bit late...got dressed and rode up for mama to drop me off. Had a clif bar & some jelly belly's. About a bottle of water...
Event warmup:

Rode my bike to the site ~2 miles. Set up transition...
Swim
  • 20m 32s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Man! This was the hardest leg!! I started out and kept inhaling water when I went under. i kept doggy paddling and got some distance as I followed the group. I tried to stay outside and not on top of other women.
About half way through my goggles fogged up. Could kinda see where I was going, but it wasn't fun. It seemed really long!!
I breast stroked/doggy paddled/ attempted to front crawl the rest of the way. Ugh! Just ugh!!

The positives:
Didn't get too far off course
I finished!
What would you do differently?:

Different goggles/anti-fog.

Don't inhale underwater..
Transition 1
  • 05m 22s
Comments:

Seemed fine. Jogged most of way to bike. Found bike with a little bit of trouble. Changed right into shoes and socks, removed swim stuff and was off.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I felt it was ok...
Bike
  • 55m 4s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 13.51 mile/hr
Comments:

Using my 15 year old mountain bike - I had been warned that I would be passed. This was the part that I really had to remind myself that I was racing myself AND myself only. I THOUGHT this was one of my weaker events. But getting out of the swim, it just wasn't there. My butt was ok in the saddle (I got up a few times), but my feet got numb about 3/4 way through.
What would you do differently?:

I can't wait to try out the borrowed bike I have - it's lighter, with thinner tires and I might put road bike handle bars on it.

I'm not sure...but this needs work!!
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Find stuff and racked bike. Was a bit tired.
What would you do differently?:

Walk transitions before race! Don't have anything in pockets. Could've moved faster.
Run
  • 40m 35s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 13m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I was kinda disappointed at this point in time. Why? I won't get into that. However, I will get into the fact that the balls of my feet were numb from the bike and I had to text tony..BAD!! It sucked. I jogged and walked. Route was pretty flat and not difficult. Was able to kick up the legs for the last 100 yards or so...
What would you do differently?:

Work on pre-race bowel movements...- not kidding.
Figure out why feet were numb.
Post race
Warm down:

Got my dog tag/medal...woo hoo! Went to bike. Had water, some jelly belly beans and rode back to place to meet mom and enjoyed the sun for a bit...while I waited.

I think I expected it to be a big relief, but after racing - I realized that I enjoy the training more than the race!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike, digestion system and new pains for today (numb feet especially)

Event comments:

More porta-potties!! When you have ~2500-3000 women - 10 porta-potties DOESN'T DO IT!!

This race is a bit spread out. You have to walk about 1/2 mile to get from bike transition to swim...and the parking is a bit of a hassle. I had to wait about an hour for my mom to get me to pick me up!

Lisa, you kicked that tri's butt!!!!!  Seriously!  I am so proud of you!  You were dead-on to remind yourself during the bike that this is a race only about you.  I thought your time on the swim was great!  I mean, I'm envious of it.

Welcome to the club, triathlete!  Woo hoo!

Congrats on  your first! I though about doing this race, then did the Naperville Women's tri as my first in June.
