Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:20. Downed a pop-tart and a coke. Ate an english muffin w/ PB. Got final things together and loaded up car. Left at 4:50 and was at the race site by 5:15.
Event warmup:

Ran 1 mile. Swam 200 meters.

Comments:

Glad I didn't get passed. I caught the person ahead of me at the last lap which was fine since I was starting to tire a little bit and it kept me on pace. My seed time was 4:50 and I stepped over the mats at 5:04, so I know I touched the wall at about 4:50 or so. Good swim. Tied for 5th fastest swim time in age group.
Transition 1

Comments:

All was fair, but rode with socks. Overall went well.
Bike

Comments:

My time was destroyed by a flat tire. It happened before I ever jumped on the bike and as soon as I crossed the T1 mat, I knew I had problems. My hopes of a strong, fast race were fastly declining. Had nice cheers from the people cheering on racers near the star. Well I replaced the tube, but it took me 15 minutes . . . guess I need to practice w/ the tires. Filled up the replacement tube only to have it blow up on me. Bikesport was helpful enough to replace the tire for me in about 2 minutes. My time shown above was the time on my trip computer not the actual time. My actual time was 51:48..

Otherwise, my ride was strong as it should be after resting for 15 minutes. I averaged 22 mph on most of the ride bike despite what the autocalc function says. Stayed behind a girl who was cruising for most of the ride and then I passed her in the last 2 miles as she slowed down a little and I sped up. Kept it above 23 mph for the last two miles.
Overall, I was happy with the ride, but disappointed in the flat.

Would have had 7th best time in age group on ride w/o flat.

Fair.
Run

Comments:

Run went well. Ran without socks b/c my race plan had been shot w/ the flat tire. I figured lets try it out. Times were similar to last race: 7:22, 7:08, 6:36. 4th fastest time in age group.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing. Drank some gatorade. Sat around and talked with friends and talked about the next race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A FLAT TIRE . . . AND A SECOND FLAT TIRE.

Nice to know that I would have finished about 6 or 7 out of the 36 in my age group.

I was standing outside the pool building watching folks run into transition and heard your tube pop. Most of the folks standing around me said they'd have given up if they were you. Good job sticking it out and finishing the race!
