Is there a thread going somewhere about this event? I've been looking around the forum and don't see one. I don't see any way to search for an existing forum topic.

Anyway, I'm training for Savageman Half, 9/20/09. Anyone else?

Just do a search using the "Search" icon at the top right of your screen.

It only goes back a year, though, so just for kicks, here's my race report from the inaugural Savageman '07.

Great race; you'll love it!

...after it's over and the pain has faded somewhat...

I never did the race, but here's a link to my original course preview a couple years ago.

The swim is in Deep Creek Lake. Year 1 there was thick fog and 45-50 degree air temps - a very cold T1/early bike ride. Expect it to be chilly in the air, water's actually still warm that time of year.

The bike course is the hardest 56 miles I ever have ridden, but also the most beautiful, scenic, and challenging. I highly recommend a preview ride or two.

Run is a double loop with some serious climbs. This course earns its name and reputation as the hardest half IM in the country (and world?).

A couple BT'rs have done it and you can find race reports if you do a search like an earlier poster suggested.

Thanks for the replies, folks! I'm pumped. I'm a former full-time, now part-time, resident of the Deep Creek Lake area, and have run in the park and biked on sections of the course for years (before it was a course.) I've wanted to do S-Man since I heard about the first trial running of it in 2006, but either couldn't be in the area for it or was injured (last year I did the swim but had to do a planned DNF as I could neither bike nor run due to injury.) This year I'm IN and living right in DCL State Park right on the course and couldn't ask for a better opportunity.

So, who else is doing it this year? Anyone?

Just found out about this race from a youtube post of the westernport wall and have been looking at this event for the last 6 - 7 hrs. I, have to see it lol. I'm not going to run it as i'm doing a half marathon in Dayton the day before (sept 19) but I want to see this event for some strange reason. Wish I would have heard about it before I signed up for the half marathon. I, really am thinking that i'm just going to leave Columbus and go out there and stand on the Westernport wall just to expierance it. I'll be in no shape i'm sure to ride it but I want to scout it and i'm in for 2010 ! I'm curious to hear from others about it also!

I did the first one as well (which had a harder run course, by the way)...

I have been desperately looking to do it again.  Had my brother's wedding in Montana last year, and major bike crash this year that made me miss Eagleman, Lake Placid, and Savageman.

I'll be there in 2010, hopefully!

My race report is VERY LONG but can be found here.  Seems kinda lame and sappy now, but it was my first 70.3 and second Tri ever and very sentimental for me at the time.

I did the International last year as my first olympic ever and will be back this year to knock off at least 25 minute from my time!   The ironic part of all of this is I HATE CLIMBING!

Very cool race.  Nice volunteers and beautiful water - whole course for that matter.  This is the only race I have ever done where the volunteers tell you to slow down on the bike course.  You had better listen though or you won't make it around those turns.

Most definitely!  And thanks for volunteering.  Savageman has some of the best volunteers I've ever seen.  People dressed up all along the course (in devil outfits, raggedy anne, cheerleaders, the famous monster from gremlins at the base of the wall, tons of cowbell and horns on the wall, etc).

Hey Guys,

I just started an Official BT SavageMan 2009 thread.  This way when you select the race your race calendar will turn green for that date.

I’ll be posting in this thread.  Come, post and hope to see you at the race.  Laughing

James
