Event warmup:

some general stretching and lots of pacing
Swim
  • 40m 56s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tough swim with lots of chop, had goggle strap come undone and had to grab on to a kayak for a minute or two to get it tied together.... big problem when wearing contacts.
What would you do differently?:

not much, just a tough swim
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

overall went well other than the wetsuit strippers had a hard time getting suit over timing chip band. did get a couple of minor cramps in calves trying to point toes to help out
What would you do differently?:

not much
Bike
  • 3h 02m 1s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.46 mile/hr
Comments:

ride was going well did feel a bit weak on some of the hills. About 3/4 way through started to develope cramping in legs that kept getting worse. started to drink more nuun electrolyte but just made my stomach upset. After about mile 20 started to develope pain in my neck from riding aero. By the time I hit the finish my legs were just about locked up from cramps in my quads.
What would you do differently?:

just don't know... though I was drinking enough but problems just kept getting worse.
Transition 2
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

went pretty well despite being in a lot of pain from leg failure! Almost gave up but i pushed on.
Run
  • 2h 53m 34s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was on and off... tried to push to legs started to cramp up and then would walk at a fast pace until I felt some relief. Stomach from the bike was upset the whole time. tried eating bananna's and drinking coke and water, at least it kept me from vomiting.
What would you do differently?:

Not get cramps!!!
Post race
Warm down:

just did some stretching and recovered my bike and gear. went to friends for a long shower and some light food and plenty of ibuprofen

What limited your ability to perform faster:

had bad couple of weeks leading into race which blew my tapering away. This led me with an attitude that I was going to do poorly. Then showing up and the wind was howling and the water was a washing machine did not help.

Event comments:

Race started late because bouys for swim were blown off in the wind. The only lacking of volunteers seemed to be water safety on the swim. The race pakets came out late, only a week and a half before. Roads on the bike course were bad, but thats Rhode Island roads. Last 4 miles were really bad.
