Total Time = 1h 19m 55s
Overall Rank = 24/666
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 4/56
Pre-race routine:

ate PB with banana, cliff bar and coffee. walked through transitions. spoke with Xan from tri-blub/BT and charlie from tri club. saw some guys I knew from Keuka. My main thing was figuring out the layout of transitions.
Event warmup:

swam a little, tread some water
Swim
  • 11m 45s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

fastest swim yet. My plan was to go harder than usual, and it seemed to have worked out. not sure if that was the downfall on the bike or not. drafting was a bit of an issue, but did OK on one guys side. we kept bumping into each other, but "rubin is racin" in my eyes. He decided to firmly grab my calf. So I kicked him in the face.

I'm all for fighting for position and all the stuff, but don't grab me in the water.
What would you do differently?:

not much, great swim for me. PR for the distance and it felt faster
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

good T1, 13/775.
What would you do differently?:

not too much. it was a solid T1, 13th overall out of 775 people. screwed up at mount line, but no big deal.
Bike
  • 44m 35s
  • 16.35 miles
  • 22.00 mile/hr
Comments:

awful. left 2 minutes out there. not happy with the bike at all.

i don't think its a fitness issues as I pr'd the run by a long shot. man, at first I was happy with the results, 24/775 is good. I, as I sit today, am capable of better.

not upset, disappointed.

other than that, awesome course.
What would you do differently?:

go faster. man, I want do-over so bad!

gonna have to wait until next year
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

I thought I SMOKED T2, than I found out I was 27 OA. I mean, I stopped for nothing. Jumped off bike perfectly, helmet was off, shoes on, race belt in hand and I was off. still pretty good time, and only 9 seconds behind 1.
What would you do differently?:

run faster with bike. just couldn't have transitioned faster at the bike rack than I did.
Run
  • 21m 36s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 06m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

PR for me on the run for this distance. I kept a nice even pace, each lap around 6:45 or so. started off all by myself, so I thought I was doing good. than when the leaders came around it was Kevin and Docswim, about a 1-2 min gap, than 10 more people. Still in good position.

got passed by one 30-34, I tried to stay with him, but I just couldn't. he ended up with 3rd in the AG and I was 30 seconds behind him. good run, gave a shout out to rstocks3 at the tent--he didn't recognize me and I was too tired to say "Cusetri!!!" or something like that...;)
What would you do differently?:

not much. great run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

relaxed with the wife and kids, ate some really good post race fruit and watched some people finish. Chated with Kevin for a couple minutes and said congrats on a great race...he was smokin' out there!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the bike. usually my strength.

I'm just disappointed with the result. I don't know.

ride more is the only solution to the problem, and the only excuse as to why it was slower than what I am used to is because I'm not riding enough.

Event comments:

awesome race.

tons of speed at this event. I'll be back every year, no doubt about it. I cannot say enough about this town and the weekend they have set up in Geneva.

maybe the half in 2011??

Mike, you smokes that course! Before you get too down on your bike, take some of those wind gusts into consideration. Seems to me with you swim and run PRs, that everything was going your way yesterday. 4th in a tough AG at a big race is pretty sweet. You earned it.

great race, 2 PR splits in the same race is impressive! and like Xan said, don't forget about the winds on the bike course.. it was pretty gusty out there.
