Musselman Triathlon
Total Time = 1h 25m 52s
Overall Rank = 59/666
Age Group = M20-24
Age Group Rank = 6/20
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition took the bike for a quick spin and then just walked around a little bit.
Event warmup:

Quick little 10min bike
Swim
  • 13m 13s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt alright. Got near the end when I wanted to pick it up but couldn't get around someone who couldn't swim straight to save their live, hahaha. That will happen though. Caught some feet to the face and neck during it as well. Some stuff thrown at me that I haven't had to deal with yet, know better for next time though. Still happy that I can swim in the top 10 in my age group at this point!
What would you do differently?:

Get around people a little better, be ready for anything!
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

T1 was a lot better than Kueka. Felt smoother and had the fastest one in my AG. Managed to take the wetsuit off and put my glasses and helmet on at the same time, first time I've been able to multitask in transition. Need to learn how to mount with the shoes already on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not much at all, just learn how to mount with the shoes already on the bike
Bike
  • 46m 49s
  • 16.4 miles
  • 21.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt awesome. Didn't have any real problems with it. Felt nice and fast on this course. Managed to hold a high cadence on the hills and maintain some speed. Tried to catch the people that swam faster than myself. Came off the bike sitting in either 2nd or 3rd in the AG and left T2 in the same. Did the flying dismount for the first time in a race. I think I scared some people next the dismount zone because they kept telling me to slow down. Did this traveling at like 16-18mph and nailed the landing (thank god).
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at all, just getting the shifting down a little better, will come with practice and time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

T2 was a bit of a mess. Couldn't find my transition area at first had to stop and look around which cost me some time but this was my own fault for not doing a walkthrough of the transition before the race started. Trying to get the running shoes on one of the heels folded over when I tried to slip it on. Need to stay relaxed and calm.
What would you do differently?:

Do a walkthrough of transition before hand.
Run
  • 23m 15s
  • 3.21 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

The run felt slow and labored for the first two miles. Not sure about my mile splits but the last mile and change felt very good. Got passed by 3 or 4 people in the AG knocking out of placing but the run time was very good for what I'm used to holding off of the bike. Definitely need to do some more bricks to get my legs underneath me a lot sooner than 2 miles away from T2.
What would you do differently?:

Take a gel with me I believe. Train more bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking and cheering, lots of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much at all, need to get in the pool more often and train more bricks (swim to bike and bike to run)

Event comments:

Very good race, really enjoyed the environment that is created there. Swim was a little funky in the canal but was deep enough to actually swim in it. Gonna give doublemussel a try next year hopefully and experience the whole weekend!

Good job out there!  Looks like a pretty good race you had except for T2.

Great job and good placement in rankings.  You should learn to mount you shoes on the bike.
