Age Group Rank = 9/45
Pre-race routine:

Up and at em at 4:45am. Loaded the Jeep, grabbed a powerbar and gatorade and off to the race.
Event warmup:

Nothing, just drank water and ate another energy bar waiting for my turn to swim.
Swim
  • 17m 28s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a time trial start with swimmers jumping in off the pier 3-5 seconds apart. Kinda neat and a very easy, non-contact swim. My swim time seems kinda fast even with using a wetsuit. I'm guessing it had to be shorter. Another positive was my sighting was great and I swam straightish.

Comments:

Flat and fast. Really enjoyed just staying in aero the whole way. So damn close to 23mph. Oh well.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to keep training and get faster.
Transition 2

Comments:

Nice and smooth for me.
Run
  • 25m 14s

Comments:

You guessed it. Flat again. First mile at 6:40 and then faster with each mile after. Had a pretty groovy sprint finish with a guy in my AG. He got me by a step at the line tho :( Anyways, I won't complain about 6:19 m/m.

Post race
Warm down:

Met up with the family and hung out watching other finishers come in. Chatted with a few folks, then headed to clean up my stuff out of the transition area. Snagged some post race grub, checked out the stats as they were posted, then headed home.

Event comments:

Great race for PRing and a well run event. Looking forward to doing this one again next year.

Don't you just love the spring finish! I hope the announcer gave you guys play-by-play commentary. Makes it seem like the big leagues. Great race though! You're right...a 6:19min/mile is nothing to complain about.
