Pre-race routine:

Just getting to this race is enough. Spend 90 minutes driving and looking for an open gas station for carbo unloading.
Event warmup:

Mostly hanging out with a lot of great BT'ers. Too tired to name them all now.
Swim
  • 14m 45s
  • 800 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Took this swim very easy. Ribs are getting better but are still tender three weeks out from breaking them. Actually went faster than last year when I was in much better swimming shape.
Transition 1
  • 03m 25s
Comments:

My transitions suck. What can I see?
Bike
  • 58m 53s
  • 21 miles
  • 21.40 mile/hr
Comments:

Legs just didn't want to fire on the bike today. Dissapointed in going slower this year than last year. 16 hour training week must have beat me up more than I thought.
Transition 2
  • 02m 41s
Run
  • 44m 27s
  • 5.3 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Started really hurting around mile 3. Deep breaths are painfull. Despite feeling horrible I actually knocked some seconds off last years run.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with all the great people afterwords.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No taper, heavy week of IM training, couple of cracked ribs. I should be happier with this performance I guess.

Event comments:

Once again HOLT has put on a great race. Favorite event of the year.

Cracked ribs, huh?  Wow.  Maybe your body wasn't happy, but your time doesn't show it.  Wish we could have been there to cheer you on.

You did great!! I can't believe I didn't run into you. What a perfect day for the race. After the last two days, this was a real treat.
Great times for everything...you're getting to be quite the runner. You're unstoppable.

It was good to see you again Bryan.  Peak performance can't happen at the drop of a hat.  Don't let a result that may be a little less than you expected to bother you.  You're out to fry much larger fish than this and it wouldn't have made sense to take a bunch of time off from your training to rest leading into this race.  Good to see that run split to come down though.
