Swim
Comments: Asthma attack as soon as I hit the water. Lesson learned? Don't make fun of the fact that they pulled the bouys in so people could stand if necessary....it could be YOU standing there sucking an inhaler. I never really got my groove. Overtaken by last wave :( Even though this time looks stellar a shortened (I think) course combined with a favorable current makes this look better than it was. In short, it was my suckiest swim to history. I'm really surprised I managed to finish it. What would you do differently?: Use my inhaler ahead of time. Transition 1
Comments: happy with this Bike
Comments: Breathing settled down around mile 10 and I started working on getting my hr down and settling in. Unremarkable until ~ mile 33, when my bike started making this wierd clicking noise. I thought it was my bike computer hitting the spokes, but no. Stopped briefly, could see nothing glaringly wrong, kept going as it was riding fine. The noise got louder and more frequent - I was sure I had a loose or broken spoke but I can't find one. The mystery remains.... What would you do differently?: Probly slow down a little. But it's hard - just like in a car, I hate to be behind people going slower than I feel like, so I use too much energy passing them instead of just slowing down a hair. Transition 2
Comments: I'll take it. Run
Comments: Not sure what happened here. My chest ached, as it always does after an attack. My breathing was tight again. My nutrition was off a little I think - my energy felt low at times. I took lots of gels and after a while my stomach felt really bloated. I walked some hills and aid stations to conserve energy for the flats where I could hopefully pick it up a little. I just couldn't keep the pace I'd hoped for. I don't know that it was too hard an effort on the bike though, my legs felt fine (better than the rest of me!). I think I just wasn't getting quite enough air moving. I DID manage to pick up the last 2 miles like I'd planned and finish strong :) What would you do differently?: Force myself to gag down Heed, or carry infinit. Post race
Warm down: Sit at the "donkai" tent with other generous bters who let me occupy thier space and even borrow a towel :) What limited your ability to perform faster: asthma Even though this is a PR, I'd hoped for better swim and run performances, since both have improved in my training this year. But I definetly left it all on the course. Last updated: 2009-07-19 12:00 AM
