How did you sign up already?!?!

I'm signing up on Aug 4th when most normal mortals get to sign up. Will be looking for a PR since it's my type of course.

I'm considering it. I want to do one spring 70.3 and one fall 70.3, volunteer for IMLP in July, and maybe throw in some sprints/Oly.

Here are my candidate races and their 2009 dates as reference:

Spring – HIM –          Jerseyman (Clinton, NJ May 9 2009)

Kinetic Half (Spotsylvania Va, May 9 2009)

Black Bear (Jim Thorpe, PA May 31, 2009) <------ in the lead

Eagleman (Cambridge, MD June 14 2009)

Fall – HIM -               EnduraSport Half (Quakertown PA Sept 12 2009)

Diamondman (Bear, DE Sept 13, 2009)

Savageman (Swanton MD Sept 20 2009)

Belly of the Beast (Lebanon, NJ Sept 27 2009)

Bassman (Tuckerton, NJ Oct 4 2009)

It's a great race. It is fast and flat, but yes wind plays a role. It draws a very competetive field as well.

ETA: the OP says he is a para-triathlete... thus the race may allow early sign-up, especially because he is military.

Remember Pat Tillman is associated with this race as well.

To the OP: good luck, I'll see you there

FRed you hit the nail right on the head....I am paralyzed from the upper chest down and 14 inch rods in my back. I was hurt 10 years ago on active duty....so swim with a little flotation help and work my but off......

Comments on your races below!

mrbbrad - 2009-07-20 1:36 PM I'm considering it. I want to do one spring 70.3 and one fall 70.3, volunteer for IMLP in July, and maybe throw in some sprints/Oly.

Here are my candidate races and their 2009 dates as reference:

Spring – HIM –          Jerseyman (Clinton, NJ May 9 2009) - N/A

Kinetic Half (Spotsylvania Va, May 9 2009) - Coooold swim, rolling bike

Black Bear (Jim Thorpe, PA May 31, 2009) <------ in the lead - Brutal, I mean brutal bike course

                                  Eagleman (Cambridge, MD June 14 2009) - flat/fast/windy

Fall – HIM -               EnduraSport Half (Quakertown PA Sept 12 2009) - N/A

Diamondman (Bear, DE Sept 13, 2009) - Fast (minus a bridge), run is hottt, on a trail and unshaded

Savageman (Swanton MD Sept 20 2009) - Another brutal course

Belly of the Beast (Lebanon, NJ Sept 27 2009) - N/A

Bassman (Tuckerton, NJ Oct 4 2009)

N/A = I have no idea.

I too am doing black bear as IMLP prep instead of Eagleman.

I think the timing of black bear is better (Eagleman doesn't give much time between the two races).  It's also a much better LP prep from the terrain perspective -- if you're ready for Black Bear, than LP hills won't seem so bad.  Oh and don't forget its much cheaper and much more scenic.

Eagleman 70.3 will be my first HIM....I am super excited and a bit nervous! I am currently putting together a training plan but thinking I may need professional assistants, can anyone recommend a qualified and experienced triathlon trainer in Harford County, MD? Thanks!!

Coaching is a great way to go about tackling a new adventure! It gives you guidance and insight to workouts and races.

Now what you have to ask yourself is do you want a local coach that will do more hands on training or group things or are you pretty self motivated to where you can do distance coaching through Training Peaks.

Feel free to PM myself or any other coach on BT (there are plenty) to ask questions and find a coach that suits your attitude and style.

I want to Eman because of the timing and because I've always heard good things about the race. I am planning to go to LP a few times at least for specific training

I would love to do Eman 2010.  I was registered this year, but ditched it to go up to LP to do Jorge's camp.   Which was absolutely the right decision for me this year.  Next year Eman is a good possibility!

1/2EmDot...Heck yeah, I'm there. This is my second season of training and racing... my goal this year is three hour Olympic... missed it at Columbia by six minutes so going again at Nation's. Next year's goal is Eagleman.

BTW responding to a post up there, a good coach in Frederick, Maryland is Herb Spicer. He has a training studio, and has the reputation of being a great communicator. He's also a great racer.

PennState - 2009-07-20 8:39 PM looks like lots of 'cool kids' doing Eagleman next year... sweet!

I agree only the cool kids do these races.  Can't wait to see everyone out there.
