Subject: La Jolla CoveVisiting SD in a couple of weeks and want to do an OWS. I've been there many times and know that a lot of folks swim at The Cove. I know there is at least one buoy off shore. Does anyone know the distance from the shore to the buoy? ETA: I think I found out. I know, I know; Google first, start thread as last resort.... One other important feature of La Jolla Cove is its unique swim zone. The Cove's swimming area extends outward a half mile to form a corridor for long-distance swimming. Boats are not permitted to cross this corridor at any point. In fact, flotation devices of any kind — including kayaks, surfboards, boogie boards, inflatable toys, and even lifejackets — are banned from the Cove. The swim zone contains distance buoys placed at quarter-mile and half-mile distances so you can keep track of how far you are swimming. Edited by mrbbrad 2009-07-20 1:48 PM
