Good day to all.

I am looking for a gator and moccasin free spot to do some open water training for my first tri.
Anyone have a location they swim without incident?

My sprint is in September, and I would like to get a few open water swims in before then!

Thanks so much.

Hey I have been looking also, but I have had to drive to the beach to get in OWS.  If I find one around here I will let you know and if you find one, I would be happy to hear about it.

I did read that some folks swim at Lake Alto, out near Waldo. I'm skeptical to jump in any lake around here tho! Maybe something to look into further.

I might try and get my college daughter to get me into Lake Wauberg, I think there is a swimming area there.

How about Lake Alice?  Just push the gators out of the way   (Kidding)

I'd say the best lake near Gainesville to swim in would be Kingsley Lake which is about a 30 minute drive from Gainesville and about 5 miles East of Starke. The problem with Kingsley is that I don't believe there is any public access anymore since Strickland's Landing closed. I have access to the lake through Camp Blanding which is a National Guard base, but you either have to be in the Guard or have other connections to get in. Another option would be if you knew someone who lived on the lake. It is a very beautiful lake with excellent water quality and at least 6 to 10 foot visibility. I did quite a bit of OWS out there in preparation for my 1st IM.
