Pre-race routine:

Alarm went off at 4 am... I didnt get up til 4.30. Packed the night before, just had to grab my water bottle out of the fridge, and fold up my wetsuit which was drying in the tub from the day before. No breakfast this time, wanted to try without it. Just had two packs of Shot Bloks to chew on on the ride up, and walking around transition.
Event warmup:

Some kinetic stretching, splashed some water on myself. Felt really cold, but I knew it wouldnt be that bad once we started.
Swim
  • 09m 35s
  • 700 meters
  • 01m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim, tried to draft a little bit, dont know if it worked or not. First wave start, but wasnt too bad. I started going a little too far to the right, but got back on course, and did pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

start in the middle, go out stronger.
Transition 1
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

Even after practicing, I still have problems getting my feet in my shoes on the bike, so I just put them on in transition. Tri shoes might help with this instead of bike shoes with the ratchet. Long run from swim exit to my rack.
What would you do differently?:

Get my helmet on while im kicking off my wetsuit.
Bike
  • 35m 37s
  • 13.2 miles
  • 22.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Rough access roads, highway was sweet and fast. Dropped my water bottle at the beginning of the first lap, so I didnt have anything to drink. I think I can push harder on the bike than I am, I really have to learn to take it to the threshold on these sprints.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. Not drop my bottle.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

I had to slow down way too much getting my feet out of my shoes. Good dismount though, and my rack was right next to the bike entrance. But I couldnt get my handlebars over the rack, wasted some time doing that, finally got the bar between my shifters and handlebar. Shoes on, long run through transition to the run exit.
What would you do differently?:

Need to figure out a faster way to rack the bike coming in from the bike.
Run
  • 28m 43s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

pretty warm, but no sun, which was good. Took 2 miles for my legs to feel good. Still get passed by way too many people on the run. Picked up the pace the second half, and had a big kick left at the end for a sprint finish. Didnt drink anything, just poured the water over my head to cool down.
What would you do differently?:

Need to start stronger, and trust the training and toughness to still finish strong.
Post race
Warm down:

waited for my friends, had a banana, water and recovery drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

just my own speed.

Event comments:

WIll definitely do this one again :)
