Is anyone a member of one of these clubs?  My gym's pool is out of commission and I think the place is going out of business.  I would like a gym with a lap pool in the Mesa area.    The 24hour fitness I am looking at is on Dobson just south of the 202 redmountain.  There are three LA fitness I am looking at Signal Butte, Gilbert Road and Greenfield road.  I would be open to other places that have pools if anyone has suggestions.  Thanks

I go to the Dobson/202 24 hour. It is a nice new gym. The lap pool has 3 lanes and I have only had to wait one time to get in the pool. I normally (well if I go) go there in the evening.

I have never been to a LA Fitness. My suggestion is to sign up at the one that is the most convenient to you distance wise.

I go to LA fitness on Dobson and Warner. It's open M-F 24 hours with different hours on the weekend. Nice 4 lane lap pool indoors that I've never had to wait to get a lane for. I pay $25 a month and they're easy to haggle with as far as any initiation fee.

I go to the LA Fitness at both the Signal Butte and Greenfield locations.  As I've said before, it's the "Mc Donalds" of gyms, but if all you really want to use it for is the pool, then it won't be bad.

1. They only have it taken up by a Whalearobics class once or twice a week.

2. They don't have hours taken up by kids' swim teams, open swim w/out lanes, etc. like a lot of regular pools do.  This is the BEST reason for going to LA Fitness.  You can show up basically ANY TIME you want and go lap swimming, unlike regular pools where you have to schedule your workout around their lap swimming times.

3. 90% of the time you'll be able to just jump in on an open lane because the people that go to LA Fitness just aren't swimmers.  Every single time I go there, there might be 1-2 other "swimmers", and the rest of the time, a couple guys with basketball shorts down past their knees will jump in to windmill across for two laps with their heads above water, and then get out to go sit in the jacuzzi.

4. Bring your own music to listen to, even if it's just to have on while changing your clothes.  The CRAPPOLA they have piped into the place will seriously make you feel like a sharp object is being driven through your skull.  You can choose to ignore this warning, but I've warned you

LMAO! The LA Fitness that I go to will leave one lane open for lap swimming during whalearobics. I was in the middle of a workout and had to move over for the class and got the opportunity to do an indoor OWS because of the class. I kid you not, there were white caps in the lane.

I remember seeing a waterobics class called "Lumpy Ladies". I can't imagine that went over well.  Who would sign up for that??

Oh I found it!

That is too funny.  Whitecaps in the pool.  Good to know.  I will hopefully be trying them out next week.

Haha! There is almost always an elderly woman in the end lane doing breast stroke as well. I see some of the most interesting "strokes" from some of the non-swimmers who swim at LA Fitness on Dobson/Warner.

LA Fitness for me at Power Rd and Pecos.  Most evenings I have the pool all to myself.  4 lanes at 82 degrees and it seems like almost no one swims there.

I belong to LA but it is hard to get in the lanes there unless you can swim at 5am.  We only have three lanes and typically one of them has 4 or 5 in it already with a couple more in the others.  perhaps it is because I am so close to Sun City West and the elderly love to swim.   It is all about location - I use to go to Pure Fitness on Alma School road, but swam at 1 or 2 in the morning and always had the majority of the gym to myself!

LAF, Scottsdale road/Mcdowell and the one on greenfield/us 60. Been a member for years, good place. You should be able to get a membership for pretty cheap that includes any of the clubs.
