I own a full sleeve suit and my training partner has offered to let me borrow his sleeveless suit (same size as mine, same make and model, minus the sleeves) for IM FL.  I am going to take both to FL with me.

Given that it won't be super cold, are my arms better off without the sleeves?  I assume the buoyancy factor from the body of the suit would still be substantial.  I appreciate the advice!

I received a new sleeveless wetsuit as a birthday gift 5 days before IMCDA in 2008. I swam in it once and was in love with the sleeveless. The water was nasty cold in 2008 and I still chose to wear it. It all comes down to personal preference. I really didn't notice much difference in buoyancy myself. I like the feeling of not being restricted in the shoulders and arms, and I never had a problem in the full. Had it not been given to me I likely would have never changed.

Get in the sleeveless and try it out to decide for yourself.

Go with the full sleeve  - it will reduce your chances of being stung by the jellyfish. Seriously.

The jellyfish are the reason I bought the full in the first place, but I didn't see any at the Gulf Coast Tri so I started to wonder if a sleeveless might work.  I would bring the sleeved suit in case of a lot of jelly sightings for sure.  Mostly I am curious about arm fatigue from the full suit.

I've only done an HIM but I never even felt my arms of the wetsuit during the swim. If it fits right, you shouldn't even notice you're wearing one.

I love my suit and it seems to fit well but I can't help but think I would have less resistance in a sleeveless suit. I don't know though, that is why I asked

I've used full sleeved wetsuits (IMCDA) and sleevless (IMFL) and for Florida would recommend the sleeveless.  Less shoulder restriction, even compared to a high end full suit.  I got one little sting on my arm during Florida, so that was a non-issue to me.  Take them both though and try them during the days leading up to the race.  Then you'll have a better idea which one is "the one" for race day.  Good luck and have a great race.

Great idea to test them both out in the days leading up to the race.  I agree with the less shoulder restriction thought, so I will have to test it out and see.  Thank you for the well wishes too!

2006 IMFL sleeveless 2008 IMFL with sleeves.  Water temp low 70s both years.  I like the sleeves.  I do not feel like the inhibit my shoulders in anyway.  Play with both of them and decide what works best for you.

If you have a good quality wetsuit with sleeves I don't think it has much effect on your shoulders. I had a wetsuit with sleeves at IM FL last year and it made me feel more confident about jellyfish. Then again I have very limited ocean swimming experience so I was probably overly worried about jellyfish.
