I'm in Davenport and just---I stress the just!---getting started with my training. My sister is a more experienced athlete and I've decided to do a triathlon with her in Sept. Where are you?

no---I'm just starting training for the Iowa City Troops and Trihawks Sept. 18. My sister is shooting for doing either the DeWitt Crossroads July 9 or the Quad City Triathlon June 18...not sure which yet.

I've never done crossroads, but I have done QC. I love QC, so fun, in a great park. That's my vote.

I live in Eldridge (5 minutes from Davenport) and would love to find some other people to train with. I know there is a tri camp going on right now but it doesn't work out with my schedule. Are there any other groups out there that train regularly?

I used to live in Cedar Rapids for 6 years.  I moved to San Diego 4 years ago.  There are things about CR that we really miss!

I guess San Diego is not too bad either.

When's the QC?

I'm originally from Eastern IA (off of hwy 30), Lived in CR 1 yr, Ames for 10. I just moved to Peoria. I got a card for the CrossRoads, but would have had only 1 week of training...

If you're looking for a race in late August, Iowa State's CyMan was my first tri last summer.

Is there a website for the QC Tri?

Thanks

I'm in Davenport, and although this is an old post, I would be very interested in training with anyone in the area. I did the Quad Cities Tri this year (my first) and would like to do one more in late August or early September.

Let me know,
Bill

Okay, I've got to hear this. What about CR do you miss in San Diego? I live in Mt. Vernon, work in CR (DH is from around here), and would currently gnaw off my paw to get out of here. Please enlighten me!

tim barcz - 2005-05-10 10:35 AM Cedar Rapids.

I'm in Omaha, about 4 hours from Cedar Rapids.  I'm thinking of doing the Pigman 1/2 IM next summer.  Any insight on the area or the race?

Don't get me wrong, I love San Diego.  But since you ask, here is what I miss about CR:

- 4 seasons (or is that 5   )
- more greenery/trees
- less traffic
-cheaper housing
- our church (New Life Community Church)
- our friends
- Cool Moo ice cream.....

I'm originally from the Quad Cities area (Durant to be specific). I went to school in Ames for 5 years, then moved to Vermont. Now, I'm moving back to Iowa for the summer(possibly longer) and will live in Ames again. I would love to be part of a training group.

I'll be doing the QC tri on the 17th! It will be my first one. All of us doing that event should come up with some way to recognize eachother at the race.

Great to see so many Iowans competing in tri's. Anyone know anything about training camps this summer?

Cheers!

I don't know about any training camps but there's some serious manual labor to be done around our place if you're looking for a workout.

There's a pretty reliable ride at 8 a.m. Saturday morning from Bauman's in Mt. Vernon, usually at least a couple of hours at a good but not brutal pace. Come on over!

I live in Iowa! In a very small town with a population of 1,000 people called Greene, which is in northern Iowa. I was surprised to find that Iowa has a ton of triathlons! I think I am competeing in the Cornman next month.

I'm in Cedar Rapids also - my first tri is next Sunday, so I'm starting to taper. A bunch of family are also staying, but after my tri I would love to train for the next one! I usually just ride on the trail since it's so close to my house. I also have a tendency to forget to clip out so, the end of the ride is always a barrel of fun!!!

I volunteered at the Trihawk last year and plan on doing it this year - it looked like a fun race! My first is going to be the Danskin in WI. I thought I'd be more comfortable in an all female, less competetive race!

Hey there! I'm in Des Moines, I just moved here from IL about 4 months ago and I love it!!!
I've never done any kind of race and hearing all of you name all these different races is making me soooo nervous!!! This whole triathlon thing was a total accident for me!! I was swimming at the gym and I didn't know that the tri-team wanted to train, the trainer said either i had to get out of the pool or i could just join them! Well, I didn't want to miss my workout, so I stayed and trained w/ them! After that, he expected me at every class and expects me to do the Hy-Vee triathlon in June 08!!
Don't get me wrong, I love the training, but everyone I train w/ is a veteran. I'm still really nervous!!!!
