Subject: ? about the "Phil Maffetone’s 180 Formula"
I read an article about Phil Maffetone’s 180 Formula for heart rate training.  It sounds great, but I cannot get it to work for me.  My max heart rate would be 136 and min would be 126.

If I start working at all, then I am way past these zones.  Generally I am in the mid 140's and if I am cranking on the bike or run it might go into the 160's.

Any BT's use this in their training program and how do you maintain your heart rate within the zone?

Thanks,

David

All of the formula based maxHR calculations, whether it be 220-age or 180-age, are going to work for some athletes and give numbers that are too low for some and too high for others.

Instead of relying on one of these formulae, if you are going to train using HR, I would suggest that you read Mike Ricci's HR training thread (http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=25733&start=1).

No problem at all; if people didn't ask questions this place would be pretty quiet

Good luck with all the reading in that thead...
