There I was...having a great ride - gonna do 15 miles atleast (next tri is 14 miles).  I was minding my own business and some large bug flew right into my lower lip.  I pulled it off, but too late - I had been stung.  I'm pretty sure it was a wasp, and I am slightly allergic - which is why a few days later the swelling is down but it itches.  I know, I know.. .HTFU - but this is SOOO my luck!!

Jokes so far (from others):
Why you eating bees?

I've heard a lot of buzz about it...

I'm going to be watching TMZ later this week and hear about all the celebrities with bee stings....

Happens to me several times a season. They get caught in the air vents. Causes quite a spectical seeing someone go from 20 to 0, rip off the helmet all within 5 seconds.

That's what you get for flapping your lip.
That bug gave you a fat lip.
Who'd you lip off?
You got caught in a sting?

Ouch... never been stung on the face, but I've been stung twice while riding--once during my first HIM (on a finger). The other time a bee flew into my jersey and got me under my arm. Fortunately I'm not allergic.

Hope that lip feels better soon!

Happened to me on my 48 miler on Saturday.  Except this one hit me in the chest, got stuck in my shirt, and stung me twice.  Um...no pics or I get the thread pulled.  It was all I could do to not fall over while trying to get it out, going downhill at about 25-30mph.

X2

Had this happen to me.  And with a shaved head there is no impediment to the progress of an angry red wasp intent on revenge. That 2 sec between the time you feel the hit on your helmet, feel the buzz of wings and then waiting for the sting... Priceless.

And just for the record, I hold the North Texas record for distance flinging a helmet while falling off a bike into the median of a divided road.

I've gotten them in the jersey a couple times.  This season was the worst--not sure what type of insect it was, but it went down my jersey just at the top of a descent.  I felt it stinging me but it wasn't that bad so I didn't stop.  After the fact when the stings set in my back itched for days.  The wife counted 18 stings from top to bottom of my back.  Yeouch!

Yea, my new helmet (a UVEX) has screens in the front vents.

Only if the tailwind is faster than your speed.  I'm sure it isn't fun for the bug either.
