Hi everyone,

Below is a picture of me on my new bike. I got it a couple of weeks ago and I have been riding it on my shorter rides during the week. I got fit for it when I got it and felt good on it. As I have been riding on it more, I am feeling less comfortable on it. My neck is sore from tilting it up, which I guess I will have to get used to, but my arms also get tired, especially my triceps. I am not sure if I just have to get used to riding in the aero position or if I need to go back and get a better fit. Any thoughts?

Thanks

PS- I do have pedals, just have not transfered them from my old bike.

Sorry I don't have much input for you.  Your position looks ok to me though I'm no expert.  Have you been to your LBS for a fit?

I do recommend that you post a pic with your near-side pedal @ 6 o'clock so people can comment on your leg extension.

No expert here, either, but you look a tiny bit stretched out in front to me, which could be why your triceps are getting sore. You could try either moving your saddle forward a bit (you may need to raise it a smidge at the same time), or ask your bike shop to swap out your current stem for a shorter one. Your elbows should be almost directly underneath your shoulders, so that your upper body weight is being supported by your skeleton. Your arms shouldn't be getting sore at all....

As far as your neck, this is something you may just need to adapt to. If you have a hard time adapting, you could raise the front end a bit (add a few spacers). You may loose a little of your aero benefit, but if you're more comfortable, it might be worth it.

Oh, and if you start moving stuff around on your own, MARK your current set-up so that if you screw it up you can at least get back to where you're set up now!

From my experience of watching alot of races (Ironman, 70.3, etc.), your position looks a lot like the one of pro triathletes ! I agree with all the above and this position looks very good to me ! Try it on the road though as a good position inhome might be unconfortable on the road... You want some good aerodynamics but you want confort and good power as well. The combinaision of the three will give you your best speed.

Good luck !

p.s..... Here's a picture showing what I mean about elbows being below shoulders. Compare that to your fit, and you can see what I mean about you being stretched out a bit in front. Is your fitter experienced in fitting riders to tri bikes, or do they mainly work with road bikes?

Thanks everyone for the input.

The guy I went to works with a lot of triathletes.

He did have me closer in and I said I felt too cramped. He then put on a longer stem (whatever the piece is that connects the handle bar to the frame is called) Maybe I will have him switch it back.

I could never get used to the straightish aero bars. My wrists and forearms would burn. Went back to my Syntace with more of an L bend and problems went away. Might want to try a different aero bar as well.

i would either move the seat up or go back to the shorter stem.
