Just go to their website. Not much in that area. Could always stay in the Disney area if needed.  I think I picked a Roadway Inn or something similar.  Nothing to speak of but it is just 1 night for me.

enjoy,

Duane

I just read where Lance Armstrong is going to be racing Florida 70.3 and 4 other 70.3s as well.  I guess that might make the crowd of spectators a little larger.

Just curious if anyone knew how long the trip is from the wilderness lodge in disney to the new race site?  Already had a vacation planned around the race and they moved it.  Some of the things that I've read said that it was close but that was all promotional stuff.  Sometimes they can be a bit confused on some of those things.

I live in Orlando and rode the new course last week. It's only about 20 -30 minutes away from the Fort Wilderness hotel. The run will be much nicer than the old Disney location. The ride is a little more challenging with some rollers thrown in there. The park is awesome and will be great for spectators.

Best of Luck

I just saw Lance is doing this race! I'm so excited!

I know it's silly, but I think it's fun! Only 95 days to go!

Just signed up. Looking forward to a new location. Did this in 2010 at Fort Wilderness and the run wasn't fun.

Did i read somewhere that we can do a bike check in on race day morning? I live in Tampa so not too far away to drive over from home on Sunday morning.

I hope that everyone's training is going well.

I was in Orlando this past weekend and took a look at the Lake Eva park which looks great. I did see that they have a danger: underwater obstruction sign on the beach. Which is to say that the beach is closed by the city to swimmers. Has anybody seen anything from the race directors on what this might be and why it wouldn't apply to those of us hopping into the lake for this swim?

As far as hotels and stuff. There is not much at all near the park itself. Choices seem to be limited to close to Orlando and close to Winter Park which I think is closer to the new Lego Land. It did take me almost exactly 30 minutes to get to the park from the Nickelodeon hotel. fwiw.

I will be in St Pete (from Seattle) April-May. I would like to ride the course...is it possible to ride it alone, do you know?  If not, can I possibly join your group? How many are going? What is the estimated bike speed? Thanks!

Hi Mona,

First of all I never ride alone in a "strange" place.  I am sure it's safe but I just don't do it.  I'll let you know when we go.  Speed depends on how many people go.  We have a few sub groups.

Thanks!  Anxious to get to Florida now to start training in the wind and heat; arriving first week of April.

Only 47 days before the big race.  I hope everyone is getting all their training in.

Duanerice, I was wondering how the group ride went on the 31st.  Anything we need to be aware of slipping up on us.  Was it a good, smooth road and were there many rollers?

I did not get to go as they changed the date to Sunday and I couldn't go.  But the report back is that it is similar to Augusta.  Rolling hills, pretty fast course and for the most part the roads are OK.  Nothing great though as this is the back roads of Central Florida.  There is a 4 - 5 mi stretch that is pretty brutal road wise somewhere around mile 22 or so I think they said.

The team is going up on the 15th and the 29th.  I am just going up on the 29th. One ride will be enough for me especially since I have to get up at 4 am to get up there

The run on the other hand......  I hear there is a pretty big hill almost right out of transition.  Fairly steep and long.    Remember, 3 laps.  Add the heat and it will be a tough running day.

enjoy,

Duane

Let us know how the ride turns out on the 29th.  Just noticed we're doing 3 ironman races together;  Florida 1/2, Augusta and IMFL.
