Hey Teammies, bit late but here it is:
last weeks: 71kg
this week: 71,3kg
gain: 0.3kg

Not too happy but last weekend was a bit mad in terms of eating- been away and all- and also my tummy is on strike. Well, could have been worse. Also I might be picking up a new bike today- new for me but used as such- I decided I'll start cycling to UL. It's not too far, will help me keep fit, save money on petrol and is environmentally friendly. Two things though- as the autumn is getting closer I'll need some serious waterproof gear (just finished pouring here!) and will have to have 2 baslets attached to it so I can carry all my 3 bags (work, gym and food). But I can't wait!

Weigh-in day again! They come around all too quickly...

I am steady at 275lbs this week. I really thought that I would be down a bit this week, bet there you go!?!

Good news is that the company I now work for has a gym and I jumped on the treadmill last night for a quick session. I cannot believe how much easier it is for me to run on a treadmill as opposed to the outdoors. I will use this opportunity to condition my legs and hopefully drop some weight. Wish me luck for next week....

Last Week: 275lbs

This Week: 275lbs

Difference: 0lbs[/QUOTE

Great to hear you're working again Gus!!!

hey Skinnies...well, for what it is worth, I have somehow lost almost 4 lbs since yesterday....so, while I am sure it is somehow water related, I will take it...on the presumption that yesterday I was somehow holding lots of water weight when I weighed in. Today I am 195.8.

Either way, I am still facing a rather fun dilemma in that, I have not worked since late March, and am starting a new job on Monday, and in that time, my waist has gone from approximately 45 inches down to 39 inches, yet I still have the same work trousers. Should be interesting. I intend to have them all taken in very soon...plus, they were a bit tight before, so will probably be a bit loose as opposed to falling off of me. Not a bad problem to have really!

Forgot to log my weight yesterday.  Up .5 to 172, but back in the swing of things with the workouts.  Hope to be a loser next week

I'm not too happy about my weigh in last night.  Still the same.  I can't believe after losing four lbs in a week, I can't shake off even a little over two.  I'm going to watch what I eat  this week and make sure I get in all my workouts through the end of the month.  I am determined to reach my goal for the month.

Start  (May 09) - 210
Ultimate goal    - 185

This month
Start     - 204
week 1 - 200
week 2 - 199.8
week 3 - 199.8
Goal     - 197

Congrats on getting back to work.  Try on the clothes that you think you want to wear on Monday so that there are no surprises.  I don't know if you are a boy or a girl, so any advice I have to give assumes that you are a girl.  I had great success in finding good quality clothes at thrift stores when I needed new clothes as I was in the process of losing weight.  You might try that.  Leave yourself enough time to look through a couple stores, find something and get them to the dry cleaners (if they can't be washed).  I am less certain that the thrift store route is suitable for work clothes for men.

Good luck.

Hey Leah,

Thanks for the advice. I am indeed a 'boy', lol. And living in the Cayman Islands = very limited shopping (certainly no thrift stores). I was in Miami a few weeks ago, but opted against buying new clothes then since my plan and intention is to lose several more inches before the end of the year. My work slacks were pretty expensive, so my plan is to make them last as long as possible by having them tailored. I tried them on about a month ago, and while they were a bit loose, they were okay. I am sure I will manage, but will certainly need tailoring soon!

Hi everyone.  Yesterday and today I am really in a funk.  I'm stuck in the grand old pity party of "this is just too hard".  Having just got back from a short vacation, everything feels out of control - I feel behind on just about everything.  When life feels out of control, my eating/exercising gets out of control, too.  I could use any advice, encouragement or a virtual kick in the behind.   Thanks for listening!

Lori, you've realised you in a funk and that's a good start. How about you take one thing that you can do to move toward your goal and start there. Say, go for a long walk. Head out the door and then see what you can do next. Waiting to get out of this 'funk' will not help you, and chances are it will not just suddenly change. You need to take action. Start small and work up from there.

BTW I know how you feel. But it will pass.

Best of luck.

Lori,

Funks are completely normal. We all have them. The key is to not let it rule who you are or what you can do. Nothing worth doing is easy! Everyone is motivated differently, but when I am feeling distracted or in a funk, I spend a lot of time focusing on things that motivate me. Lately, that has meant a lot of time on BT, looking at other peoples profiles, reading articles, looking at other peoples photos etc. I find it gets my mind out of the funk, and gets me motivated. In other words, think of where you want to be and why.

I am not sure of your personal situation or goals, but I also find it helpful to think of the alternative. Everything is relative, is giving up and throwing the towel in ultimately better/easier than pushing forward? Not really! Getting the motivation to go out for a run or bike ride or swim might seem difficult for a number of reasons for each of us, but thinking of the alternative helps me get over that feeling of defeat. In other words, ask yourself where you will be in a month, a year, 5 years if you DON'T go for that run right now!

What will make you feel better about yourself tomorrow, that you wallowed in self-pity tonight, or that you went out and swam/biked/ran?

Lori, have you signed up for a race? I also find that has really helped me to stay focused, and follow my training plan on BT, because I know if I don't follow the plan week to week, I will make my ultimate goal of doing an Olympic distance tri. Yes, it is hard, and will be hard, but it will be worth it and very rewarding in the end.

NOW GET OUT THERE AND SWIM/BIKE/RUN!!!!!!!!

I fixed that for ya southpalms.

Doing great Teamies,  unlike me that gained 6.6 pounds.  I must have been sleeping when I ate that cow,  but that is what the scale says so I will live with it and throw it in the pool later.

Morning Lori!

Been thinking a bit more about this. The other thing to try/motivator, might be to concentrate on smaller steps. I also tend to get really excited when I lose 2 lbs. Sometimes that might take a week, sometimes it might take 2 weeks. But, what I do, is tell myself, hey, I just lost 2 lbs, not so bad, I can do that again, and just keep going. If you find that looking at the big picture and the big goal is too intimidating, look at smaller goals instead.

Even talking through all of this to you, is actually helpful to me, 'cause obviously I would not be on here if this were easy for me. I wouldn't have let myself get 50 lbs overweight by age 37 if it were. I also guess I owe it to my body after all the years of abuse it has held on through. It hasn't quit on me, so not really fair for me to quit on it.

Okay, hopefully that is all you will hear from me! I hope it helps!

Thanks for the replies, guys!  Great advice!

Billy, no I'm nowhere near ready for a race - lol!  I'm just at the beginning of a long journey to get to that point.  First, I have to drop a big chunk of weight, and I have to build my base fitness.  I'm at the begiinning of the conservative couch-to-5K run program, getting over a knee injury.  But my goal is to participate in a tri next summer, and that's why I'm here because everyone in this community motivates me so much!

So I'm going to go do my circuit training right NOW.

you don't necessarily have to actually sign up for a race just yet, but if you have decided that your goal is to participate in a tri next summer, then find one you would like to do, so that you have a real actual tangible goal, instead of just...I would like to do one...but say, next summer, I am GOING TO DO....x triathlon. I think it is much easier to give up, if you don't have a specific goal/race whatever in mind.

Good luck!

Great job in getting out there and doing some training today! I went for a 54 minute very very very slow jog just to keep the heart rate below 80%. Baby steps!

Well I was supposed to do an 8 mile Tempo run today,  but it is 110 deg.  So I am pulling out my AARP card and I will do 10 miles with a few sub 11 min miles.  Us Middle aged guys need to watch that Temp...LOL.

my body thinks I'm about to hibernate, I seem to be eating everything in sight!  Maybe it's the rain - it has rained here almost everyday for the past three weeks and I'm getting really bored with it.  Any strategies for when one is pacing the kitchen looking for munchies?

OK, Billy, I am now in training for the NJ State Triathlon, which should be held around the end of July 2010 (exact date not yet announced)!  It's a little scary picking a specific race and announcing my intention, which I guess is the point, to commit to it.

Gwen - Get out of the kitchen!  lol  Only partially kidding, though.  When I'm eating from boredom, the thing that works for me best is to keep myself busy doing other things.

Hey Lori, there's nothing in the kitchen - that's why I'm pacing LOL.   I have no willpower so try only to have healthy stuff in there.  Fantastic to have a goal, I'm waiting for the coming season's calender to be released (it's the off season here) so that I can pick a tri to aim for.  In the meantime, I am tri-ing not to eat all the Special K.

I'm leaving later this morning for (another!) week of family vacation, so I'll post my weigh-in today, and will weigh in again when we get back. Weight this morning was 149, which was my goal for this month (yay! sub-Athena weight -- there goes my chance of EVER winning any hardware!!!). We'll see if I can stay there over the next week....
