No matter how good I eat and how much I exercise my weight does not change. JC, It is hard to comment much since you don't log much (okay nothing), but it could be you aren't eating enough to cover your training and you are going starvation mode. Maybe you are fitter then you think and you are training hard enough...? Then again maybe you are eating junk food too often. You need to really analyze your day and see what you are REALLY doing or not doing. |

New user 476 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 09) Hot August Nights Junk food is not the issue. I eat pretty clean. I'm guessing I might not be eating enough fats. I'm going to try to add a couple hundred more calories. The big problem is depending on which calculator you use there can be up to a 1,000 calorie difference. Thats HUGE! For example, one calculator will say I need 2800 calories and the other 1800 RMR. I figure if I eat my RMR my activities will count for the deficit I need to lose weight. Which one? If the 2800 is correct, then yes I'm starving myself. If the 1800 is correct then I'm eating extra what I'm working out. Then I hear guys about my size eating as little as 1600 calories and the weight is falling off. That seems like way too little calories for me. Edited by JC5066 2009-08-27 9:10 AM |

Regular 82 New Jersey | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 09) Hot August Nights JC, if the weight isn't coming off for two months now (and you're not gaining), that would indicate that what you're currently eating is pretty equal to what you're burning (BMR + daily activity + workouts). So, if you track everything you eat for a few days, that will give you a pretty good idea of how many calories you need to maintain your current weight. Cut out 500 calories to lose a pound a week. Expert 1773 San Gabriel Valley, California | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 09) Hot August Nights Weighed in today at WW - 141.2, or down 0.7 pounds. I was hoping for more, but I will take that. I guess that is my ending weight for the month. My next month's goal will be 135. I wonder how many months it will take me to achieve that monthly goal. Cead - as for WW. I go pretty faithfully. I think their overall concept is good. They track points, which is based on a formula that takes into account calories, fat and fiber. Their mantra is that there is nothing "forbidden" on WW. Have what you want, just account for it. The biggest plus for WW is the weekly meetings and, as a generalization, those people who say that they will do WW, but not go to meetings, are just deluding themselves. It isn't that I "learn" anything at the meetings, because I don't. But if you get a good leader, they can be very motivational. I am intent on reaching "lifetime" this time with WW. When you are Lifetime, you only have to weigh in once a month and as long as you are not more than two pounds above your goal weight, you don't have to pay. I am now within the weight range that would qualify me for Lifetime, but I am not where I want to be, so as far as I am concerned, I haven't reached my Lifetime goal. I would recommend WW as long as you commit to really doing WW. (WW now sells a whole lot of products, none of which anyone needs. Just more processed, low-cal food designed to trick your body and brain into thinking you are eating something good.) Good luck. |

Jon, I have to agree with Lori. You cannot control what you can't measure. It is painful (to begin with) but counting calories is the only way that I have been able to achieve what I have achieved in the last six months. The times that I slipped and went backwards, or plateaued, are the times that I did not diligently measure my energy input. I suspect that I will need to do this forever but I am prepared to as it works. I know you can succeed and I look forward to hearing about your results. Best of Luck. |

No scales in my B&B so no weighing in this week- I'm really upset about this Having a good time here after the torment of the trip- I can't fly so took the ferry (2hrs) and a train before and after that so 8hrs of travelling alltogether. While on the ferry I discovered I couldn't be in the marines type of thing cos my face was very green... So that career path is closed, alongside air force (hate flying) and submarines (small space way too far away from the surface). Anyway, as to my eating here, I have a very healthy breakfast every day- muesli, low fat yoghurt and fresh fruit- but after that all the bets are off. So far had a dessert after every single dinner.... Do I worry? Yes I do but on the other hand I'm thinking after all that hell I had to go through this summer I deserve this and will focus on my weight loss when I come back - considering joining weight watchers so all the advice (pros and cons) are welcome. Atgives me least I can't drink- well the last 2 nights I had 2 glasses of wine with my dinner but even that gives me a horrible hangover- go blood thinning meds- so I might give it up soo there's only that much headache I can take. Ok, time to go - another eventful day ahead of me as the weather is suprisingly beautiful! Hey Cead, I feel ya! I'm on vacation too... in a place with delicious all you can eat meals three times/day. I've been pretty active the whole week, but I've been eating like there's no tomorrow! I'll be back home late today, and will weigh in to see what the damage is tomorrow.... Back to more serious weight loss efforts in September for me!! |

Pro 4353 Wallingford, PA | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 09) Hot August Nights Well, my post-vacation weigh in had me at 148, so down a lb. for the week! Not sure how that happened with all the food I ate, but I was pretty active the whole week, too, so I guess it must have somehow balanced out. Looks like I managed to meet my (very modest) August weight-loss goal. Lookin forward to a September Challenge!!! |

I just pull my AARP Card and claim I can't run fast. Well, it was only about 100F in LV this morning on my way back to smoky Southern California. Couldn't run outside so did a boring treadmill run at the gym. |

Expert 1773 San Gabriel Valley, California | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 09) Hot August Nights I will add my thanks to the others here. In my opinion that is seldom humble, this "challenge" is the most useful one on this site. The others might be fun and get you to do things differently or do more, but this one is really about consistency, support and motivation. I think of everyone who posts here as "my friend." Thank you all for being there and thank you, Saling, for keeping this going. |
