Sunny
Total Time = 4h 36m 42s
Overall Rank = 32/1660
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 3/
Pre-race routine:

Sausage biscuit and a large coffee from mcdonalds. Ate a package of clif shots before the swim started (taste like really stiff jello, think I'll try m&ms next time)
Event warmup:

Walked the mile from bike rack to swim start and swam about 200 yards.
Swim
  • 30m 50s
  • 2110 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim for me since the navigation was so easy. There was about seven minutes between waves so there wasn't a big problem with passing other swimmers. Best swim course I've seen out of the nine triathlons I've done.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe get one of those new extra fast suits that are being used at the world championships? Probably wouldn't have helped.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Transition area was extremely crowded and the lanes were very narrow but the big gap between swim waves kept them from being to crowded (at least when I got there).
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, good transition for me.
Bike
  • 2h 36m 47s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Boy do I suck at cycling. It didn't help that the wind really picked up for the last half of the ride but still... Way to many 18.0 mph stretches and not enough 26.0 stretches. If someone can tell me the secret I'll rename all my children after them, but unfortunately I think it may boil down to talent. Thankfully I can still run a little.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I pretty well rode as hard as I could the whole way so I don't think I could go any faster.
Transition 2
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

Got some major cramps trying to get my racing flats on. The twelve mile finish into the wind wiped out my quads.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 24m 15s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me. Never really started to hurt until about ten miles and the last two miles are all downhill or flat so I was able to keep a pretty steady pace the whole way. Only had one mile over 6:30 pace (between 10 and 11, steep hill!). My daughters gave an Oscar the grouch shirt to wear so maybe it gave me good luck.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Practiced eating pizza.

Event comments:

Love this race! The other athletes were courteous and the race was well organized. I'll definitely be back next year.

Were you the one eating Mcdonalds during the walk to swim start? If so, my daughter and I were walking behind you most of the time.

Great race..
