Total Time = 2h 26m 1s
Overall Rank = 46/151
Age Group = M20-14
Age Group Rank = 6/7
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition area got some food
Swim
  • 23m 26s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Told myself to stay long and smooth and to remain calm the entire time. This seemed to work very well. Best swim average that I've put up and it was twice the distance that I have ever done before. Little crowded on the start but I think I need to be more aggressive on the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing felt very good.
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

Transitions are feeling faster. Getting to the point very quickly with no hesitation. Just need to learn how to keep the shoes locked into the pedals and mount.
What would you do differently?:

Not much at all. With experience I will be able to run faster out of the water without feeling like I'm going to pass out. Also, mounting with the shoes already on the bike will be a good one to save about 10 seconds.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 1s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Hills were definitely a little harder than I thought. Felt smooth during the majority of the race but was feeling slow because I was being passed. When I got passed I was going about 23MPH and people were flying by me. Finished a lot of my fluids and then picked up Gatorade Endurance at the turn around, that was a mistake. Tried to catch some people on the bike that I knew came out of the water before me but caught them at the end of it. Overall, it was a good bike, 20MPH on this course is something to be happy about I think.
What would you do differently?:

No Gatorade Endurance, keep the fluid intake down a little bit.
Transition 2
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

Fast transition, fastest one in my AG and 7th OA. Little sloppy getting out of the shoes and almost took out someone because I slipped on my right foot. Got a little crowded near the transition area but got around it well. Shoes were on in a heartbeat and I was off.
What would you do differently?:

More practice getting feet out of shoes.
Run
  • 48m 14s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt labored for the back half of the run but managed to find a little bit of rhythm that I would like to have during the HIM. Got some major blisters on the feet around mile 3-4 and ran the rest with them. This hurt like crazy. Little slower than what I wanted but felt comfortable, maybe should have pushed a little more.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking around, drinking water, and mini massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run. This seems to be the difference between me and the guys higher up in my age group and overall. Swim was good, bike was good, got passed by a lot of people on the run. This is definitely a spot to focus on.

Event comments:

By far one the best race I have been to to date. The course was beautiful and had something for everyone of all ability levels. It was highly organized and there was plenty of water stations around the course. This is a race I would recommend to anyone to do in the upcoming years.
