Sunny
Total Time = 1h 37m 26s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 12/13
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30, took a quick shower to relax a little and wake up. Had some Gatorade, a toasted bagel with peanut butter, and a power bar. Double checked all of my gear and was out the door and on my way to the course.
Event warmup:

Got to the race site and parked a long way away! Was able to get a good spin on the bike to transition. Set up transition area and went out for a brief jog. Took a quick dip into the lake to get used to the temp right before race start.
Swim
  • 21m 58s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 45s / 100 meters
Comments:

The water was so frickin cold! For most of the course the entire field was walking. It was almost too cold to really swim at all. Very hard to get into any kind of a rhythm, could not get my breathing down at all cold was taking my breath away.
What would you do differently?:

use vasaline to try and keep my face warm? Try and settle into a solid and comfortable rhythm.
Transition 1
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

Transition was pretty good. The wetsuit got stuck around my ankles and just did not want to come off.
What would you do differently?:

Use a little more body glide to get the suit off easier? Other than that not much
Bike
  • 41m 1s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 17.99 mile/hr
Comments:

The hill really killed me the last 2 times up. My calf started to cramp up on me. Tried to keep my cadence up but the fell off on the hill and just after. Could not settle into a comfortable gear and kept switching.
What would you do differently?:

Increase my cadence and really focus in on settling into a comfortable gear. Work on hills more so that I can attack a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

This was a good transition overall. I did drink a little gatorade even though I really didn't need to.
What would you do differently?:

none
Run
  • 29m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I drank way too much on the bike and paid for it on the run. Just out of transition I felt sick to my stomach with a little heartburn thrown in there. Had a hard time settling into a decent pace and really did not find one until mile 2. Calf kept cramping up on me as well which forced me to walk more than I wanted to.
What would you do differently?:

Really focus in on settling into a decent pace early.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and talked with djdavey for a little. Got some food and water and walked around to stay loose.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too much liquid on the bike, cramping on the run, and feeling sick out of T2.

Event comments:

The race overall was pretty good. The bike and run courses were very nice. The swim portion was a different story! The water was way to cold to be swimming in safely. The event organizers should have moved the bouys in closer to shore to make it safer. I can't tell you how many people were walking in a quitting due to the temp. Also a number of people were pulled in by lifeguards.

Hey nice race out there. Good to meet you briefly. You're a better man than I! I wouldn't have gotten in the water for all the tea in China!
