Overcast
Total Time = 1h 40m 33s
Overall Rank = 99/237
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 8/13
Pre-race routine:

Up earily, bit nervious. Drove to start/finish and setup transition area. Place was a bit crowded. Racks were not numbered individually so placement was a pain.
Event warmup:

Swam about ~100yrds. Could have done a bit of something with regards to a run or bike.
Swim
  • 23m 14s
  • 1093 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

For my first open water swim, I am not too disapointed. Need to practice this more and work on sighting/drafting. The whole getting bumped, grabed, kicked thing was a bit overblown, but then again I wasnt in front so,,,,,,
What would you do differently?:

Push it a bit harder at the start, and try to maintain a higher pace.
Transition 1
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Had a problem with getting into my shoes. Had shoes on the bike via the rubberband trick. When I push my front pedel down I didnt have my foot on the other shoe and when that band broke the shoe flipped around and drug the ground, so I missed my pedel stroke.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting out of the suit faster. Plant both feet before peddeling.
Bike
  • 43m 36s
  • 15.53 miles
  • 21.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Seemed like every incline/hill I got passed, would catch up on downhills and flats but I just couldnt push the hills well. Gearing? Watts? I dunno, but I gotta work on it.
What would you do differently?:

Drink less, push more. More effort on the hills, at least a bit.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Time includes run around transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Run transition area faster. Speed laces.
Run
  • 30m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Came off the bike with a wicked stitch in my side, had to walk and do the breath thing to break it. Never did go away. Felt slight cramp in right quad at about the 2 mile mark. Tried to push harder but didnt want it to seize up on me.
What would you do differently?:

Drink less on the bike, try a different method of nutrition on the bike, less fluid, try gels, etc, and pre-race. The stitch thing is becoming common for me.
Post race
Warm down:

None,

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nerves on the swim, should focus on pace more. Need experience with the open water, and mass starts. Find a solution to my side cramps!!!

Nice Job, and welcome to BT !

I wanted to sign up for this race, but couldn't swing it in my schedule.  I heard they changed the course this year to 1 transition area.  Sounds like everything was setup well.  I'll put this one on my to do list for next year!
