Subject: RE: Pinchot Tri???Whew.. darn near last on this one folks. haha Not a biggie to me. This was my first tri and it was definitely a great learning experience. Overall, I am happy that I completed it and my times established a baseline in which to build goals for next year. I started my training the last week of June and lost 17lbs in getting ready for the event. Lessons learned: 1. Swim 1: Spend more time practicing OWS. I live in Dover so if some of you guys every want to swim at Pinchot please let me know. I'm considering taking my son with me, renting a boat and towing him around so I don't have to practice alone. 2. Swim 2: During OWS, practice on sighting, swimming straight and how to deal with fogging goggles. I'm a much better swimmer than my time reflected. I estimate that I'll be able to improve by at least 5 min for next year. 3. Transitions.... I think I can easily shave these from 5 min to 2 min. I didn't really care for the first race. I just didn't want to do anything foolish. 4. Bike : I think continuing my weight loss and time in the saddle will dramatically shave time for next year. I was very strong and churned my way up the hills but they were very slow. I have a trainer and I'm doing the 8 week maintenance (bike focused ) right now. I think those hills may have been pretty tough for someone with just over 2 months in the saddle. My goal is to shave 15 min off here. 5. Run : Another place where I feel I can shave a lot of time. Honestly folks, I was just astounded that I could run over 6 miles without stopping. I ran 11 min/miles and I think next year the goal will be closer to 8 min/miles. My training was only based on being able to complete distances and zero speedwork. I was worried about injury due to weight. After my 8 week bike focused maintenance, I'll be doing the 8 week run focused training. Goal time for next year is <50 min instead of my 1:11 this year. That would shave off another 20 min. |
