Total Time = 1h 10m 39s
Overall Rank = 45/170
Age Group = M 30-37
Age Group Rank = 10/29
Pre-race routine:

Maybe an hour or two sleep the night before. Took a nap too late in the day. 32 oz of Infinit with Balance Bar. Water. Drove to NPT to pick up Dad and got to the race site with about 50 minutes to go.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warm up to speak of. Got in a five minute jog with a few pick ups and a 100 yard swim. I wanted to get on the bike for a while but that did not happen.
Swim
  • 11m 30s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim speed was great. I am pretty sure this course was longor they included the run to transition in the time. I got a look at the swim splits (not published with the results) and I came out in the top 30 somewhere...the numbers do not make sense and my dumb a$$ forgot to hit the stopwatch. For the first time I had issues with going off of the course...not too far (5 - 10 yards or so). No one to draft off of until about half way through the swim as I was with the leaders in my wave and we were all spread out.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the middle and make more of a conscious effor to pick up a draft.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

T1 time is estimated. No problems at all getting in and out. Running mount was all aces. Insole got bunched a litte but no major problems.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe glue the insole to the bottom of the shoe??
Bike
  • 30m
  • 10.5 miles
  • 21.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Time is from my sensor (estimated) and the course was long by a half mile. I can't complain about this ride at all. I tried to give it the beans and keep a steady amount of power on the entire ride without blowing up. Cadence was good. I was passed by three people and passed a bunch of people in the first wave. I can't complain.
What would you do differently?:

The course was fairly flat but the bumps tend to take away a bit of the speed. Not too much except lose weight!
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Never any problems in T2. In and out quick. Passed a lot of people doing a standard dismount. Wide and fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 25m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Sigh...

My race was going very fast until the run. The course started out with a 1/4 mile hill that, of course, slowed me down out of the gates and managed to put a dent into my pace for the rest of the run. Down hills were used just recovering from the uphills and I never managed to get into a good comfort zone. I managed to hold off a lot of people until mile 2. Got passed by at least 20 people in the last mile and a half. Last half mile or so was nice and I was able to have enough left for a kick.
What would you do differently?:

Just too heavy. I have got to lose at least 30 more pounds to be remotely competitive in my AG.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight.

Event comments:

They put on a good show in Newport. Not enough bathrooms. The run course was a bit cramped but otherwise OK.
