Hey all, I'm suprised nobody has started this thread yet. I'm really looking forward to the swim in the canal. After Steelhead, this race is going to be a breeze.

So, if you are doing this race, speak up!

I'm in for Oly.
For those who did it last year- Anything special about transition area?  Tricky parts of bike course?

I mapped out the bike course a while back:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=97553

Very flat, but a several sharp turns.

Direct mapmyride link to route-

http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/in/indianapolis/580124974161140558

I work downtown so drive some of these roads regularly.  There are a few sharp turns, and watch the RR tracks, esp if its wet.

Excited about event, but almost hate to think other BTers will be around to witness my 1st Oly
My complex race plan??? Swim- survive; Bike-rehydrate, refuel, rest; Run- use whatever's left doing Galloway's Run-Walk-Run plan (at least for 1st few k to see how the legs feel).
Goal #1 = avoid DNF.  Goal #2 = avoid DFL.  Looking at last year's results I'll be lucky to escape bottom 1/3rd O/A.

They've got a confirmation list up at tuxbro.com.

Looks like over 1,000 participants (combined) so far.

Olympics (433) are just out-pacing Sprints (425).  Duathlon and Relay entries are making up the rest.

This will be the biggest event I've ever done!  (Well, triathlon event that is).

Greetings from West Michigan!

I'm coming down to do the oly.  I grew up in Indy and can't wait to see downtown and enjoy the sights (as much as I can anyway) in each event!   What is the forecast?  Hopefully will be wetsuit legal.

WOT - 2009-08-10 10:17 AM Greetings from West Michigan!

The tuxbro website says the water temp is 79 (taken yesterday).  At that temp, it would be "wetsuit-allowable" but you wouldn't be ranked in the results if you wore one.

Current forecast has the highs reaching 87 by Sunday (the warmest day in the forecast, of course).

Hi everyone, I'm doing the Tri-Indy Olympic distance. This will be my 1st olympic and 2nd ever triathlon. I just did the Columbus Challange Sprint this past Saturday, and I had a blast. Beat my goal time!! Now this week I'm just trying to get recovered in time to be able to at least finish the olympic distance. Anybody else driving up from Columbus, Indiana that morning?

I am coming from the Cinci area to do my first Tri..  Just moved here last year from Nashville/Bloomington IN and figured it would be appropriate to have my first Tri experience back home!!!

Question.,,..  Is anyone going to be sporting B/T gear or anything to be noticed by other B/Ters?  Just curious if B/Ters ever converse at these events..

The tuxbro site says . . . .

only 75 spots left!

It's looking like it will be sold out!  Should be fun!

(except for those of us not completely prepared to compete in their first olympic)

To those who were there last year-
Is getting to Transition area at 6:15am early enough to get body marked & set up?  I saw that pre-race meeting is 6:45.

For those of you who are doing this race for the first time or if it is your first OLY then you will be in for a nice race.  Then swim is fantastic and it is a good run route.  The bike for the OLY is a little rough in places but it is flat and fast but you will have a lot of turns.

Last year was a great day and it looks like we will be in for a very nice day this year as well.

Good luck all.

Woo! Just a couple of more days to go. With the weather, I'd be suprised if the canal was not at least 80*-82* by Saturday, don't plan on being able to wear a wetsuit - it'll heat up quick, as the water is only 4 feet. I've talked to some that are planning on wearing the Xterra Velocity, and the Blue Seventy PointZero3's, but I think I'll be content in my tri suit.

Transition is just a couple of steps from the swim exit, and the bike and run are fantastic courses. It's going to be a ton of fun. Don Carr and crew always puts on a great race too.

I may have my BT t-shirt on, but if not, I'll have the royal blue T3 Multisport kit on, and I have a yellow/black Fuji Aloha with BW 100s. Be sure to stop and say hello.

Oh, yeah, I'm doing the Oly. I swim like a fish, and will bike at 20-22mph, so, when you pass me running, don't make too much fun of me.
