Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 08m 46s
Overall Rank = 41/278
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/34
Pre-race routine:

got up at 5:00, had orange and 1/2 pb sandwich and water, went to race site, set up transition, got body marked, started warm-up, stretched and ate Luna bar after warm-up - long wait to get in the water!
Event warmup:

walked 5', jogged 2', walked 1', jogged 2', walked 1', jogged 10', walked, stretched
Swim
  • 06m 30s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

felt like it was a good effort, triceps were getting tired, but paced myself WAY better than at Worldgate
What would you do differently?:

get to where I can sustain breathing every 3rd stroke for this distance instead of every 2nd
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Lost a lot of time messing w/putting on tri-shorts over bathing suit b/c they were soaking wet. got stuck behind someone in a bad place to pass leaving transition; Once I passed her, I was able to get up to speed and maintain a good pace.
What would you do differently?:

Should have worn the tri-shorts in the swim since it was pouring rain and they were hard to put on.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 11.5 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Had to be a little conservative on turns since the roads were wet and slick. Tried to maintain a strong effort throughout - no breaks in effort.
What would you do differently?:

need to keep cadence up a bit more to be more efficient
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I felt really fast in this transition - right in one side and out the other, barely stopping to rack bike and grab stuff
What would you do differently?:

nothing - I was happy with this one
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.1 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

I used up everything I had left in my tank on this one. Took advantage of the steepest part of the hill to take a walk break - legs were grateful for this! Concentrated on quick turnover when I thought I was dying.
What would you do differently?:

need to work in a bit more speed work and brick work-outs later in training plan, but otherwise, felt okay about my strategy and effort in this race
Post race
Warm down:

walked a bit, drank a bunch of water, went to food area w/Sam and Tony and had banana, bagel w/pb

What limited your ability to perform faster:

just need to keep improving swim speed, bike and run speed and endurance, also need to keep working on loosing a few extra lbs

Event comments:

This race was a lot of fun in spite of the weather! It is a good place to get started or to train through a race. The organizers did a great job relative to the size of the event. Even though it took a long time to get everyone through the swim, it was nice to only have to share a lane with one other person. Having chip timing next year and hopefully splits with the results will be a nice improvement, but I would highly recommend this race.
