Overall Rank = 149/289

Age Group Rank = 8/20
Pre-race routine:

Didn't have to get up so early with an 8 a.m. start. Banana, pop tart and a sprite for breakfast.
Event warmup:

Two transitions. Went to packet pickup and weighed in. Had to prove my lbs:) Walk back to car to get stuff, walk to T1 to set up (right next to Clint), walk to T2 to set up and walk back to T1 for the start. Jabber jawed with Lara, Joe, Jim, Jenn, Ross, Kevin, and Rich...did I miss anyone? Special appearances were made by Jeff and Scott before the swim. So nice of them to include the little race in their biking journey's today.
Swim
  • 13m 20s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was cool to start in a wave with Clint. Sure did feel like I was swimming much faster than this. Please tell me the course is actually longer than listed distance!!! I felt great swimming and was passing people left and right. Unheard of for me. I think someone was even drafting off ME for a bit. Welcome to my Bizzaro World.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more!
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

Zipper was stuck, but luckily worked out while running to my rack. Surveyed the rack and saw the Jenn was out. Jim came in right behind me. Told him I'd see him on the road. Very steep grade coming out of T1. Walked up the hill and mounted at the top. Clipped in with not problems.
What would you do differently?:

Somehow get faster in here. I even sat down right away to pull off my wetsuit. I dunno.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 6s
  • 22 miles
  • 16.90 mile/hr
Comments:

I was kind of psyched out about all the hills, but ealier training has proven to be beneficial. Set my sights on finding some donks and found Jenn, to which she exclaimed "oh crap, I wasn't suppose to see you until the run". Too funny. Dropped my chain not once, but twice. Jenn was happy to see that, I think. I believe I even heard a snicker out of her on the second one (all in good fun of course). Second drop was right at the bottom of a crazy hill. Actually had to go back down a few feet just so I could get on my bike and start it again. UGH! Winds were strong. Sucks when you have to pedal hard going down hill to get the fun speed (yes, I just said fun regarding biking). Overall, happy with this bike given the conditions and HILLS.
What would you do differently?:

More time on the bike. More hill work:(
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Had to run downhill on slippery grass to rack the bike. Tried to run, but didn't want to fall on my bum....so I walked. Guess who was right behind me..yep, there's Jimbo again. Told him to come get me on the run. Remembered to just put shoes on in transition. Grabbed my belt and visor to put on while running.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to go sockless so I could leave the shoes on the pedals and run barefoot.
Run
  • 28m 12s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt like I was working the entire way. Didn't even feel like I was moving. Walked each water station. Dumped water on my head at each station as well. Ran on the gravely grass next to the very hot asphalt. Helped a bit with the heat. Heard Clint when I came out of the woods, slapped him a high five, saw a very smiley Lara on her way back, slapped her a high five, saw Jim at the turn around, gave him a shout out and then saw Jenn on the run...she said she quits, but I think that was the heat talking.
Certainly surprised with this time. I'll take it given the conditions.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Dump water on my head...again. Cheer on other donks as they came in. Walked around to catch my breath. Found Clint and the gang. Cleaned up T1 while waiting for awards. Hardware won by Ross, Joe and myself.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, humidity, wind.

Event comments:

Will definatley do this one again...even with all the hills. Yes, I said that.

Get that chain, derailleur, wheel distance, etc. checked out - that shouldn't happen.

Nice job, and, how sweet you and Clint were together.

Looks like you and Jim got a little thing going-- I'm going to relish watching this develop into another Benson-esque rivalry next season. Great race and way to tough it out, Terri!

Great race.  Next time you are in Clint's wave, just grab his ankles on the swim.  continuously.  Sure, he might get annoyed, but after he thinks about it, I am sure he will think its funny.  Or maybe not.  But I would

Great race and congrats on the hardware.  Always nice to get that after a long day of work.  Great to meet you out there and hang out a bit.  Maybe next year it will be a little cooler, a little less windy and your bike will not fall apart on you!
