Pre-race routine:

Got up and made coffee, packed the car and drove to the site. Biked from where we parked to transition, dropped my gear and went to marking. Gotta love that I have number 321! Set up transition and chatted with folks I knew and folks in my AG. USED my inhaler!!!!
Event warmup:

Ran down to the water and then one loop of the 2 looped run course. My lungs were really feeling it so when I got done I used my inhaler again.
Swim
  • 10m 21s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

I really had breathing problems - not from technique but asthma. which sucked. I definitely did a better job of sighting - only drifted off once...even managed to catch some feet a couple of times.
What would you do differently?:

not have asthma
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Bike
  • 47m 11s
  • 15.58 miles
  • 19.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Limited by breathing problems and the crowds. LOTS of blocking and places I could have surged ahead could not. Saw a few pacelines - by MEN but not many.
What would you do differently?:

not have asthma
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

so after I dismounted, I slipped in my cleats and went down HARD onto my right hand. It is possibly fractured but waiting to see how it does....It hurt, I paused getting up and transition was a bit slow for me.
What would you do differently?:

learn to get out of my shoes on my bike so I don't fall on my ass
Run
  • 24m 42s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

my hand was throbbing a LOT at the beginning which made it tough and I just kept telling myself to suck it up and get through.
What would you do differently?:

not fall in T2
Post race
Warm down:

got water walked around and hung out with team psychos

What limited your ability to perform faster:

no taper, training for long course!

Event comments:

Location is great, roads AWESOME and it was a challenging course for a sprint! I plan to be back depending on schedule next year

Yeah--you might want to find a doctor.  Do you know one. Ha Ha.  Seriously that is scare about the transition.

I'm with you on the pacelines and people not staying to the right.  My last race I lost time because someone passed me on the hill at the last second and then was so spent that they could not keep the pace on the downhill.   She stayed right on the centerline the entire downhill with me yelling "on your left..."

I'm impressed with you this year. Your speed on both the bike and the run is getting much better. Well done.

Great job Cat!  Especially on the run - that's a super fast pace.  My asthma has been a little worse lately too.  I think it's the hot, wet air.  It'll be crisp and beautiful for T-man I promise!

BTW - once you heal-up, if you want to practice some transitions before our Walden swim, be happy too.  I can provide some tricks that have helped me get more comfortable for T1 jumping on while running and slipping into my shoes and then also, pulling feet out and riding with feet on shoes for last 200yds and jumping off.  I have cut down considerable time this way.

Good luck at Timberman, hope the wrist is okay!

Great race! Glad the hand seems to be ok. Were there no marshals on the course to penlize the drafters?

There were 2 marshals, and there were penalties given, I just did not see them - would have loved if all the ones BLOCKING the course were penalized - so many places I could have biked faster but for the crowds.....and blocking - I hate screaming on your left a million times - in fact one guy who was riding just right of the centerline, I came up said on your left, waited said it again - he replied - I heard you the first time - so of course I yelled back then why were you blocking???

OUCH! Sorry to hear you hurt your hand- hopefully not a fx...I thought I saw you at one point but wasn't sure...I thought the course was sweet- your comments on the bike course tho make sense- there were times the hotshot pack were a pain as well as those blocking- I wonder if i yelled at the same guy you did LOL- almost same scenario- !

but we had a BEAUTY of a day and I thought it was one of the best organized & volunteered events I've done- and the spectators & location were great.

Onward to T-man cat-all the best!

I hope your wrist is feeling better.  There were marshals out on the bike course, on mopeds.   I got nabbed with a penalty while blocked in by one of the packs you referenced.  I was surprised to see what looked like so many experienced cyclists riding in packs 2 and 3 wide.  A great day overall though, I really enjoyed the course.
