Total Time = 1h 57m 22s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/15
Pre-race routine:

Joe (or should i just refer to him as 'the husband') and i packed the car in the tremendous humidity and headed out to Hartland. Coffee on the way, cliff bar, 1/2 banana, water.
Event warmup:

jumped in the water because i was too hot in the wetsuit!! felt great...tested the goggles.....chatted with the donks....and others....terri, clint, jim, jeff, scott, rich, ross, kevin, husband.
Swim
  • 12h 13m
  • 528 yards
  • 2h 18m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well it's a definite improvement from last year and that's where the improvements end...so i need to dwell here or i will submerge into the depression that is in my brain. i was actually brave and fought for some decent position - which i've never done! i calmly headed for the most direct route rather than trying to avoid everyone. i hit the rope a few times and passed many people..i understand the backstroke for people...but it makes me so nervous...prime time for kick to my face. swam as far in as possible due to the disgusting weeds. Tried to exhale thouroughly to lower my HR.
What would you do differently?:

have confidence in going faster and swimming with a higher HR. more speed work.
Transition 1
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

so i knew something was amiss when i say joe's bike still parked. he came trotting along with a nice 'whatever dude!' my wetsuit came off without sitting...but i was still shakey.
What would you do differently?:

Bike
  • 1h 11m
  • 22 miles
  • 18.59 mile/hr
Comments:

played tag with about 5 people...one girl in particular. i would smoke by her uphill and she would bomb down past me because i'm a big chicken. i'm not sure why i neglected by caloric intake on the bike. probably thinking 'oh it's only a sprint,' unfortunately on one of the hottest days of the year. not good. embarassed to say....only 2 bottles of water....that's it....finished them with 4 miles to go. i think it's because i've been reading about diet/exercies and the latest research saying people eat more than they burn so it's pointless. but i'm not doing 'normal' activities! would've killed for some salt tabs, harkie chews, gu, anything to help with the hell that was coming. alas...this bike is awesome. tough - but scenic and fun.
What would you do differently?:

not chase people so much....learn to go balls-out downhill...got up to 36 down one which is good for me. get a fricken bento box or drink-between by handle-bars-thingy so i can pack more nutrition!!!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

steep, slippery hill coming into T2.....told myself to just walk though i new my nemisis girl was right behind me. tied the shoes old-fashioned like...hat...race belt....wished i had a gu.....wah.
What would you do differently?:

nutrition....something.
Run
  • 30h 06m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 9h 42m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

kind of embarassed....well...need to suck it up. of course i'm capable of faster but did it happen today? no. people say, 'ooo, conditions were rough,' yea, they still were only a minute off their goal time. i was like 5 minutes. my body said 'we're done.' in hindsight - my own fault with the nutrition things. tried to focus on my breathing, light strides, light arms, yea...... fun to see donks everywhere! some sprinklers on the road, at least water was nice and cold - shock to my system going down my back. couldn't wait to be done!!!
What would you do differently?:

hydrate..take in electrolytes.
Post race
Warm down:

lots of donks to chat and eat with....yummy food if my stomach would've been happy. awards to Joe, Terri, and Ross....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

already stated...need to move on.

Event comments:

The 86 year old finisher certainly had me emotional at the end. she was so little and cute...determined and positive. This was a fun way to exercise today...the race is run well. lots of donkey jersey comments - someone asked if we're a political group. ha! one lovely biatch asked if we were jack-asses. fun day!

I had a stash of salt tabs...too bad I didn't know you needed them.  I would have shared.  Awesome job on that swim.  Love the "whatevah dude" comment.  Too funny.  Fun to be racing with ya.

Way to tough it out!  I did offer you some salt tabs before the race ya know.  And you did neglect that you were beating me on the bike for a bit.  So fun being in the same wave like that!  xoxox

Great Race Lara. Way to beat 'the husband' on the swim.  Sounds like we had a similar experience on the bike. Good to see you again.

Whatever dude!  Classic.

Nice race, especially the agressive swim.  It was hot and the bike course is tough.  I think you did great.  5th in your AG is pretty darn awesome.

Wow, sorry to see you're disappointed in this race.  CWM was my first race way back when, and I'll tell ya I think to this day it ranks up as one of the toughest.  That trail run in the woods right off the bike is no picnic.  I think you hit this tri thing in style this year and have done GREAT so far, including this race.
