Total Time = 1h 08m
Overall Rank = 15/191
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 3/45
Pre-race routine:

Had the spaghetti that is a mandatory pre race dinner. Packed everything up and then did some stretching before going to bed.
Event warmup:

Got to the race a little later then we wanted, but met up with Leah in transition (I got yelled at for riding my bike with no helmet on), racked my bike, dropped my stuff off then headed inside for body marking and the all important meeting about the rules and tips and blah blah blah, let's race already!!!!
Swim
  • 15m 1s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

Well, I'll have to blame this swim on work. I was so concerned with getting to the airport on time that I lumped in way to early. I climbed into the 16 min line up and with the oder going slowest to fastest I was slowed way down with all the bodies in the pool. I probably lost about 2 minutes with having to wait, it was just so congested that passing was just not an option. Patience....I don't got it.
What would you do differently?:

Wait my turn!
Transition 1
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

Had trouble keeping the bike rolling in a straight line! She kept wiggling all over the place!
What would you do differently?:

Not much, maybe lost a sec or two but I'm happy with 34 seconds.
Bike
  • 30m 33s
  • 20 kms
  • 39.28 km/hr
Comments:

Now I need to blame the Calgary Half Iron for my performance on the bike. Going up the hills it seemed like I was in the wrong gear each and every time. I just could not get the legs going. So guess what next year I'm going all out. I was pretty cool to hear Steve King talk about my bike record from last year while I was leaving T1 and Kari told me later that he continued to mention it a few times again after I left! Next year I'll kill myself to take back the course record. 83 seconds was the first place for this year...pffffft! I can kill that!
What would you do differently?:

Ride like the wind....the wind hopped up on enough steroids to knock over a city!
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

Took an extra couple seconds getting my socks on. I had planned on running sans socks but I got a nice big blister on my ankle a few days before and it hurt like hell!
What would you do differently?:

Not much, it takes time to do stuff. I can't bend time to get my shit together!
Run
  • 21m 11s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 14s  min/km
Comments:

Loved it, I had a couple of cramps in my chest (ran by the aid station this time taking only a cup of water, NOTHING else this time!) and took off at a steady pace until the legs were ready to pick up the pace. I gave myself 3 minutes until I took off and everything seemed to be in check. I pushed the pace a bit harder and was feeling great, the cramps went away and I settled in. Amazing run for me, I ran with a smile and was having fun! The 5 K went by fast (cause I was running fast DUH!) and before I knew it, I heard the crowds, I picked it up to a fast run until I saw the finish where I broke into a sprint to cross the line.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, just got to get faster on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some food, cheered on every one else that came though the finish for a while, watched nielman race over the line, ate another muffin then took off to the airport.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Again I love this question, gravity, laws of physics lack of raw talent...

Event comments:

Great race put on by great people for a great cause!

Great race Chris! I see there were a few more racers this year. Did they change the bike course?

Would have liked to have been there but was busy helping my Daughter move.

Nice race Chris and thanks for cheering me over the line.  I enjoyed the event and signed up for the Vancouver half mary next year.  Excellent bike time.
