Comments: last year i won this race and had thoughts of a repeat..........wasnt in the cards today, however, this is how it went........ *bang* gun goes off and away we go...seeded myself in the first row inbetween the guy who took second last year and the guy that i thought would probably end up winning (which he did). first turn the guy from last year took the inside..well, mistake as i kinda cut the turn some....lesson learned for him!!! so cruising along in second place and come to the mile.5:20. uh oh, hope i dont blow up........1.5ish i hear footsteps....ran with that guy for a bit, but still feeling good. 2 mile. 10:50.....cool only slowed down about 10 seconds on that mile........start doing the math and realize im on pace for a "new era" personal best! refocus dave, hill coming up......and oh......hillybillymilly! nothing drastic but just one of those ones that are slow and gradual that take forever, and are usually found in the last half mile of the race! now im thinking........gotta hold on for third, dig down donkey, dig deep! battle thru and finished hard, third mile was 16:47 which put me at a 27 second closing kick. last year was 18:10 and first overall, this year 17:14 and 3rd overall............old "new era" best was 17:44 and now is 17:14!! for coming in 3rd OA i received a one month membership to the Wisconsin Athletic Club!!! so as soon as the pass i am on now expires, i will be cashing that in! yeah, im happy with this race....... What would you do differently?: nadda. Post race
Warm down: talked with first and second, cheered fourth in then started to double back on the course until i saw my friends i knew, my father inlaw, my wife, mother inlaw and toby and then my mom. walked the rest of the way in with my mom! big big props to my mother inlaw, my lovely spouse and my mom (and toby too) for entering and finishing their very first 5K!!! very very proud of them peeps!) What limited your ability to perform faster: nadda Event comments: Great little race that if they ever decide to really push the advertising could end up being very large! volunteers at EVERY intersection (at least two at each one) and lots of them at each water station. also had two people at each mile marker calling out times! i do like this race!
