Total Time = 2h 33m 49s
Overall Rank = 168/640
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 17/58
Pre-race routine:

Got up on time (4:10am), no breakfast to speak of. Banana and Powerbar Performance Bar. Get drive out of the way to offsite parking and take shuttle into Transition. No rush and made it with plenty of time.
Event warmup:

NONE!
Swim
  • 32m
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Sun wasn't much of a factor like race reports said in previous years. (At least not in my wave). Anyway, I definitely put for an honest effort this time on the swim and I'm pretty proud of my 32minute Swim time. I spent so little time in the water this year but my mechanics are good enough to keep me moving and ready to get into another gear when I want to. Happy, happy, happy!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing except do more in the way of training.
Transition 1
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

No problems in T1 this race. Wetsuit came off so easy, I think its finally broken in. I wasn't confused or second guessing anything in T1 either so I had a bit of confidence going out onto the bike leg. Especially after catching a glimpse of the Race Clock and I knew I had a Sub-35minute Swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing! I could and probably would be a lot faster with practice and/or dedication but for my purposes this was a great swim and T1 Combo
Bike
  • 1h 09m 19s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.51 mile/hr
Comments:

Ok, where the hell did I read that this was a flat course. It was like adding insult to...insult. With the wind gusts and the hills everywhere this was a very challenging course for me.
Transition 2
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

T2 seemed to quicker than the race results state but oh well. I was out of my shoes about 400m from the bike finish and rode on top of my shoes into T2. I forgot to do this at Harbor lights and I was on the ball this time.
What would you do differently?:

Not forget my last Gu for the run portion.
Run
  • 48m 24s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Whew, I was just glad to finish that run! Saw Tony (2goggs) a few times and he was flying! Good run Tony! I couldn't summon any energy to pick up my pace and I definitely underperformed on the Run. For my strongest discipline I really sucked it out there today. But I kept moving and still eeked out a sub 8minute mile.
What would you do differently?:

Not run in such crazy heat....but, can't help that.
Post race
Warm down:

I took a bath in the water and gatorade trough. Sorry everybody :(

My warm down consisted of trying to do everything I could to cool down!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat was definitely a factor for me. The sun was out in full force and there was absolutely no shade to be found.

Event comments:

I am not being hard on the event or my performance. It was just really hard for me out there and I still had a new PR by more than 5 minutes so I am really happy about that

Pretty windy and I don't know if this years' course was different or what but, YES, there are hills, everywhere! Anybody? Beuller? Does anyone else agree?
Wind: Some with gusts
Course: Pretty circuitous route with a lot of turns and the turn to 2nd loop wasn't clear nor were the volunteers clear in the way they phrased the options of whether to go straight or take the loop. Anyway, this was really challenging for me but someway, somehow I managed to get a 21.5mph average! Nice.

Danged nice race out there Eddy. It was good to see you again. Keep in touch -- we seem to be about the same speed.

Oh and I wondered why the eff my water bottle tasted like a mix of Lake Michigan and sweat. Sick bastage!

Heh.  I wonder how many races we are going to do together before we finally meet.

Nice race, though.

I tell you what, I'll give you my swim speed if you give me some of your run speed.  Deal?
