Total Time = 2h 58m 50s
Overall Rank = 163/277
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 23/34
Pre-race routine:

had coffee and english muffin with pb & j at the hotel
Event warmup:

late getting to event but did swim to closest buoy
Swim
  • 40m 17s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

freaked out by getting kicked and hit..especially around buoys, breathing pretty heavy every 2nd stroke, did great with forward siting and left and right, almost missed small buoy just before Left hand big buoy following someone else
What would you do differently?:

do better job siting, more ows practice and more races, this was my 2nd tri, practice increasing speed, probably run on land instead of walking
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

grabbed race belt and visor by accident o/w good, 2nd fastest in my age group
What would you do differently?:

don't pick up the visor
Bike
  • 1h 16m 10s
  • 22 miles
  • 17.33 mile/hr
Comments:

they moved mount line back which i didn't know, plus i grabbed my hat and race belt for the run by accident which got caught in my tire after mount line and had to stop and yank it out..dumb! my socks latched onto the velcro straps which was a new learning for me..making it harder to get my feet in the shoes, didn't get to jump on bike because mount line came up too fast on me
What would you do differently?:

practice mounting, different socks that don't cling to velcro, need to work on increasing speed..very slow for my age group.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

tried a flying dismount and someone stopped dead in front of me at the dismount line...someone had a huge towel that fell into my rack slot and made it hard to get my bike racked easily
What would you do differently?:

if dismount line crowded dismount earlier and try and run around them, a little more forceful racking my back over a towel
Run
  • 1h 00m 15s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

my hr was way up..went slowly, had to stop and get hr down 3x during run which was frustrating, stomach felt sloshy from ??infinit and gu's..i took one gu before swim and 2 or 3 during bike which was probably too much for me, belching gu alot and stomach stuff was not going down easily..making it hard to drink h20 during run, doused head though with water each stop
What would you do differently?:

?ease off the gu's..maybe have h20 on bike w/infinit, i think i need alot more bric work
Post race
Warm down:

walked around drinking h20

What limited your ability to perform faster:

i don't think my endurance held up for the run portion
