Total Time = 1h 15m 34s
Overall Rank = 75/319
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 11/21
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:00 AM
Ate oatmeal, peanut butter and 2 bannanas
Drank bottle of water

Event warmup:

Setup transition, got in first middle rack where I wanted to be
Did 1 lap in pool to test the water. Water was almost too warm, felt good and relaxed
Swim
  • 05m 42s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 54s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good start, felt good and relaxed.
Was tapped at end of second lap, and then on 3rd lap, luckily both times was almost at end of length.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, too hard to judge who goes out fast and who goes out slow. After my second tap there was a huge gap to the next swimmer. Maybe should have stroked further into the kiddie pool.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

The transition mat is not until you exit the pool and get to the bottom of the transition area, so I marked the finish of my swim with my watch, and then added the rest of my swim time to my transition time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I got there early to get the center front rack where I could run all the way up the hill, get my bike and quickly get onto it at the mount line
Bike
  • 43m 16s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.64 mile/hr
Comments:

Took out slow trying to catch breath from swim. Took first turn and first hill pretty slow due to this. Did better on the BIG hill than last year, but still need more hill work
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Good dismount, felt great coming in as I was right at my goal of 50 minutes at that point in the race
What would you do differently?:

Need to get rid of shoe laces and get my quick laces in my shoes....
Run
  • 23m 6s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Took it easy getting legs under me on park path before heading out onto streets, took it a little too easy on the first part headed up the neighborhood incline. Once I passed the street near DD/Howards I knew I was good and picked up the pace. Pushed coming back with rabbit ahead of me. Sprinted the last 150-200m.
What would you do differently?:

I left too much on the course, should have pressed harder at the beginning.
Post race
Warm down:

Cool Tower, bottle of water, walked around to cool off.

Had my Diet Coke and nothing to eat

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of hill and bike training. Goal for next year is to focus more on the bike and knock another 5-7 minutes off my time.

Event comments:

Nice race, just the right distance and challenge for a sprint to get in right before my next Olympic race in 3 weeks.
