I usually wait for the end of season clearance, and pick up 3 or 4 regular lycra blend jammers for dirt cheap. I wear a brief type undersuit anyway, so I could care less if they get see through.

I toss them when they start sagging a bit, though.

Discovered this morning that I was once again swimming in a suit with an entirely see-through back! I felt like I was always replacing my swim suits, so I decided to track mine this time, and it has lasted almost 4 months, approx 34 hrs of pool swimming.  Is that the best I can expect? How long does your swimsuit last?  This one was a TYR (78% polyamide & 22% spandex) and I also use Speedos, but don't think they last any longer. I always rinse it off afterwards (warm water in the shower .. would cold water really make a difference?) and hang it to dry.

Any suggestions on other brands or material blends - or am I just being unrealistic to expect a swimsuit to last longer?

It would be best to rinse your suit in cold water, hot water is bad for the suit. The showers at the pool I swim at only have hot water so I only have a few seconds to rinse mine before it gets hot.

Thanks for the info & links  - I"ll  replace this one with a pure polyester swimsuit.  lol guess I had better get a colour I like it if it's going to be around for years!

I wouldn't count on years.  My poly suits last about ONE year...after that they seem to end up very stretched out...not see through, but stretched.

I rode about 10 miles behind a guy in the NYC Tri and I was being mooned the whole way. He was much larger than me so I would pass him on the uphills, but he would pass me back on the way down. I finally passed him for good and my view was much more pleasant from there on out...

don't toss them double them up more drag.. we're training aren't we?

When I was younger the only time I wore one suit was when I Was racing, I had a pile of old sagging torn suits in the bottom of my bag and that always went on top of the newer suit. Also helped back in the days of summer swim teams if you sat on the concrete deck it didn't tear it up.

Now I just train in normal knee length bathing suits, if they had ones I liked with cargo pockets I'd wear those since they'd act like parachutes

My 10 year old was on swim team this past season.  I was voluntold to be a timer.  Standing behind the diving blocks with a timer in my hand, I realized that a good majority of these kids needed new suits, as the ones they were wearing were paper thin.

I almost ordered from that link last night, but ordered an Xterra wetsuit instead. But at lunch today I stopped by Big 5 and scanned the clearance section and picked up a TYR 53% Polyester/47% P.B.T. with 100% polyester lining for $19.98 plus tax but no shipping. They only had two or three of these on clearance and I couldn't believe they had my size. Yay! Can't wait to put it to the test.
